Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/09

Western U.P.With a dusting of new snow we have 10 inches on the ground. Temps for this week are going to be cold with temps in the single digits until Friday and below zero at night. We need this cold weather to help freeze up all our wet spot and swamps.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Reports trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood is in good shape, from Bessemer to Marenisco expect some bare spots along with wet spots. Trail 8 is groomed and again there are wet spots. Trail 11 N is unable to be groomed because of the big swamp area. Trail 160 is being panked. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. There are wet spots on all trails so please use caution. Remember while you will find some good conditions it is still early season riding.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Groomers have been out where it is possible to groom. We still have mud and wet areas, so use caution. Trails are ride able but remember it is early season riding. Watch for a possible reroute on Trail 102 due to logging. Also watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Groomers are out every night getting the trails in shape. They are reporting trails are hard packed. Trails 2 west and 2 east are in good condition. Trail 3 north to Bond Falls is good and trail 3 south to Land O Lakes is also in good condition. Trail 13 south to Cisco Lake has been groomed;there are wet spots where 2 & 13 meet so please use caution. Remember it is still early riding season.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – 12/09

Winter has arrived. By 5 p.m. tonight we had received 5 inches of snow in the Cadillac West area.

I checked the White Pine Trail at about 4:30 p.m. and it had 2 inches of snow cover on the north end at the staging area. More snow forecasted this evening and throughout the day tomorrow. Today’s snow is light and fluffy and not ideal for making a base . We’ve had lots of wind to move the snow around. We’ll keep you posted as conditions change.

Remember the State Park folks have asked we not ride on the White Pine Trail until there is at least 4 inches of snow on it.
