St. Ignace Trail Report – 02/13

Things are not changing that much out there. It got around freezing this weekend which did produce a bit of a chop on our trails up by Trout Lake. The infamous last 2 miles got a little tore up on Saturday, but should be all fixed back up by now. Everything else is just about the same. A couple of tough spots on the RR Grade North of Iggy, and in Moran, the sides of the roads suck, and the pipeline is tough going. The forest trails are in good shape, and everything else is just this fantastic base waiting for snow. Drop back to this thread for pics of the trails: http://www.straitsareasnowmobileclub…ead.php?t=1286

This weeks forecast is just more and more of the same. Near freezing temps with little to no snow except some sort of possible storm on Thursday:
Quote:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 34. West wind around 10 mph.

Tonight: A chance of snow and freezing drizzle after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of snow and freezing drizzle before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 26.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34.

Thursday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.

Friday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Saturday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26.

Looking OK, but we are getting to the point that we are going to need more snow if we are going to keep the Southern loop ridable. The Northern loop should be OK through the weekend, new snow would fix up the trouble spots.

So far this season we are running about 18% of normal grooming. I sure hope that we pick up some groomable snow in the near future to get those number up some.

Conditions will range from poor to good to excellent! The farther south the less snow, the farther west and north more snow and better trails. The sun and warmth over the last few days have turned trails to icy paths except west of Brimley. It was 8 degrees this morning and is to get 6 below Sat. The weatherman says 3 inches of snow tonight and we only got a dusting last night.

Join us on Facebook also.

We will be taking over he 38 miles of trails groomed by Kinross Charter Township last season.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 1-3 inches -Trail is in Very Poor to Fair Condition. It is icy under the snow. Brimley shoulders are bare.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 1-4 inches -Trail is in Fair Condition. The first mile going west of Brimley has very low snow in the open area. Make sure you go with the flow of traffic when crossing the bridge in Brimley or you will be ticketed!!!!!

City curfew is from 1am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic, 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 2-5 inches – Trail is in Fair Condition. Watch for the water spots to go around just south of town on powerline. When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop and south to Pickford, parts of Trail #49, #494, #472

Base 2-5 inches – Trail is in Poor to Fair Condition. Lower snow the farther south towards Pickford

Kinross to Raco, Trail # #480 & #472

Base 2-5 inches – Trail is in Poor to Fair Condition. The water areas are all frozen up. Not much snow between you and the ground.

The Downtown Trail has not been groomed yet, but it is marked. The city will not set up the barrels until we have enough snow. They are talking about doing it next week, and then it rained.
