Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/24

Looks like we could be in for some "significant" snowfall through the middle of next week, at least some of the weathermen are saying so. Amazing the different forecasts one can come up with for the same area. This will be a great weekend to get out in the Keweenaw and hit the snowmobile, ski or snowshoe trails. BE SAFE! — Via Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula Page

This is the Keweenaw trail system report for Friday, February 24, 2012.

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and groomers are out working on them. Trails are in good to very good condition. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails….they have the right of way!!! Please watch out for deer on the trails too.

There is logging on a portion of Trail 133.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 02/24

It has steadily been snowing since early this morning. At this time we have 3+ inches of new snow. The trail conditions are improving quickly. As the snow continues things will only get better. Much of the trail still had ice base with snow on it so those areas are good. Spots where it was down to the dirt are completely snow covered now. Falling snow will pack in which should make for some great trail riding this weekend. Let’s go riding!
If you are looking for a place to stay where there is ample trailer parking and you can park your sled directly outside your motel room door then Ray’s Retreat is the place for you. We are located directly on trail 7, south of Gaylord. Room rate includes a hot breakfast to start out your day. If you break down there is a garage available to put the peices back together.
