KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Fletchy’s Otter Belly Lodge – 5/4 Fletchy’s guide crew ended the Snowmobille season today with one more backcountry tour! It was a great season! Keep us in mind for next year to experience some of the best Snowmobiling in the country! <> <> KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/31 March 31st is here and this is the last official day of the 2021/22 season. Trails running through private land will be closed after today. Trails running on state land do not close. Within the KSC trail system that is trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and trail 3 running south of Houghton that do not close to snowmobile traffic. These trails are open to ORV traffic. <> KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/28 The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club would like to thank everyone for an awesome season! Grooming operations for the remainder of the season have ended. Trails are open through March 31st when gates on trails crossing private property will be locked. Riding after March 31st is only allowed on the trails running on state owned land. Within the KSC trail system that includes Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and Trail 3 from Houghton to Toivola. The next system brings a mix of rain and snow on Tuesday before temperatures turn sharply colder Tuesday night, followed by a round of potentially heavy lake effect snow in the north wind snow belts on Wednesday. Our snow “storm” sure didn’t pan out…. Keweenaw County only recorded 4.5 inches of fresh snowfall and a total of 305.5 inches for the season so far. There is definitely not a lack of snow though for those of us out enjoying the trails today!
Reid Berman has been up riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula for the past week and half 😳 and shared these photos from this morning. Reid said, “It’s pretty good out here, a few bumps, but they are minor. It has been good riding!”

Most of the lake effect snow for the UP will fall between Tuesday and Thursday, where much of the higher elevation areas along Lake Superior currently have a greater than 50% chance at 4" of snow by the end of the work week. For much of the LP, lake effect snow will be confined primarily to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, especially AFTER Wednesday heading into Thursday. We are keeping an area of 1-20% across much of southern and central Michigan in the event wind shifts or passing clippers allow for extra accumulation, but the greatest chances for 4" will be in the far southwest corner, the thumb, or your typical lake effect zones across northern lower Michigan.

Trails are shaping up pretty good. Last night the crew said trail 3 groomed quite well and I just hit 109. There's definitely less snow down around Alston but still plenty to ride on.
