Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 03/26
SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 3/26 The MISORVA trail report page has been down for several days so I have not been able to update the trail report. Nothing has changed, we are still not grooming because conditions are poor. I have heard that the trails are still holding well in the areas where the sun hasn’t touched them such as 889 and the powerlines. Along road sides and crossings they are toast. Please be safe and watch for poor conditions in most of the area. <> <> Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association Facebook Page <> Sault Ste. “Ryan and I headed to the Kinross area this morning for another day on the trails.
We accessed Trail 49 from Gaines Hwy and worked our way west.
We signed our way across the old AIr Force Base on Trail 472 all the way to Mackinaw Trail.
We then backtracked a bit and got on Trail 494 and made the loop back to Trail 49.
We replaced a pile of broken posts today. We replaced lots of weathered signs and were really happy with what we were able to accomplish.
We had sunny skies with high humidity for most of the day. The wind kicked up mid afternoon and the temperature dropped 10 degrees. It was a chilly ride home but at least it was dry.
I am happy to report the bugs were tolerable today.
We were able to repair signage for both the snowmobile and orv trails. If you look close in the picture with Ryan you will see the yellow sign showing we even repaired a section of motorcycle trail too.

“Ryan, Pete, and I got an early start on the trails this morning.
We started at the Ashmun Bay staging area and headed west on Trail C/Trail 8.
There was a lot of sign post carnage for the first couple miles today. We were able to replace broken posts and reinstall the signs along this route.
We also cleared a bunch of downed trees and limbs that had fallen on the trail.
We made it all the way to the west side of Brimley up to Beune Rd.
It was definitely chilly with the cool temperature and strong winds. The cool temps kept the bugs away making it another nice day to be outside.

“Pete and I left Ashmun Bay this morning on our side by sides and went and closed gates.
We made it to every gate on our 103 mile trail system.
We were able to close all the gates but two. Snow was still deep in places. Pete and a round nose shovel moved a lot of snow today. We need some warm weather to help us with the last ones.
Our crew is ready to start brushing and signing as soon as weather allows. The last two weeks were dedicated to repairing our equipment and organizing our trailer.
The last few weeks of signing last year was brutal. We broke the frame on our trailer and we were in water everywhere we went. The trailer is a 1962 model single snowmobile trailer that was sold by Sears. At 60 years old, I'm hoping the trailer still has lots of trail miles left in it.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone enjoy parts of our trail system on wheeled vehicles during this snowmobile off season.
I want to thank Chippewa County SORVA for the time and effort they put into improving Trail C (Trail 8 in the winter) last summer.
The stretch from 5 Mile Rd to 6 Mile Rd is in great shape this spring. The water was flowing in the new ditches and there is no longer a 3 to 4 foot water hole there. It was a big project and will benefit us for many years moving forward.
