Munising Area Trail Report – 01/20
TRAIL REPORT January 20, 2022 GOOD SNOWFALL and WORKIN’ OVERTIME! Four to six inches of new snow fell over the last 24 hours with the trail system in an overall very good condition, good in towns and near roadways. Groomer Operators Al and Chris were working overtime in the Big Deere yesterday and last night, both getting very good results with the new snow. Operators Les and Jim were working extra miles with our smaller club owned Deere getting the same good results. We are currently working out a plan with our neighboring club Trenary Northern Trails (TNT). They offered to cover some trail grooming on the west side until the Bully is back up and running. Its a hydraulic brake issue and these larger repairs do not happen fast with the required grant process so hang in there. It’s extra work but everyone will be doing what they can to keep the trail grooming un-interrupted. Pockets of freezing rain could also mix in at onset and lead to a light glaze of ice on roadways for the Tuesday morning commute. Heavy lake effect snow will then be reinvigorated with a secondary cold front Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across the N and NW wind snow belts. The next system brings a mix of rain and snow on Tuesday before temperatures turn sharply colder Tuesday night, followed by a round of potentially heavy lake effect snow in the north wind snow belts on Wednesday. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> We were able to get out for a short while last night. Trail is groomed from 417 to Rumley. Due to operator constraints, we were only able to make the partial run. It is an unfortunate reality we face as a volunteer organization. Between work and family obligations, we sometimes have small gaps in the schedule. Now that we have the trail set, we will be training in a couple more operators to help fill those gaps. A couple of our out of state operators will be back in the seat also! We are like every other club that does grooming. We are always looking for operators. If you have contacted us before and we didn’t get back to you, please feel free to reach out again. We didn’t forget about you. We just didnt have an opportunity to get you into training before the season ended. If anyone is interested in grooming, please send us a message! Our repairs seem to have been successful and the snow is falling again! It does look like we have a small warm up coming soon, but it doesn’t look like it will stick around for any time. Sounds like results varied last night with a couple spots needing multiple passes to get back into rideable shape. It will definitely take a couple grooms with the hard base and fresh snow to get everything back to flat again. Ride right and ride safe! #munising #snowphotos
