Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association - Once again, volunteers Steve and Ryan were out helping on the trails. Big improvements to this section by our local ORV club that will also help us during snowmobile season. Here’s what Steve had to say….
“Ryan and I made a rare Friday night run and signed a portion of Trail 8/Trail C just west of 5 Mile Road.
The stretch of trail that had major water holes was ditched and built up this week.
Our local orv club, CCSORVA coordinated the project.
It is a much needed improvement to that section of trail.”
Thank you Steve and Ryan!
It may be 90 degrees in the Soo, but we are always thinking snow❄️❄️❄️
177 days until sledding season! #soo

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan - With meteorological summer underway, here’s a look back at how the 2020-2021 snowfall season stacked up across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The snow season certainly didn’t stack up to U.P. standards as snowfall ranged from roughly 20 to as much as around 80 inches below the long term average. The greatest departures occurred in some areas within the Lake Superior snowbelts. The last winter that had a poor snow showing on par with what occurred this past winter was 2011-2012. You can view past snow seasons back to 2002-2003 at www.weather.gov/mqt/seasonsnowfallmaps #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo ... See MoreSee Less

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association - Another Sunday spent working on the trails by some of our dedicated volunteers. We thank them for all of their hard work. We also want to acknowledge Yamaha for their support through the Outsoor Access Initiative. We really appreciate their generous donation of equipment that has helped us to maintain these trails.
Here’s what Steve had to say….
“Ryan, Pete, and I met up with Charlie Steffens from the Chippewa County Sportsmen Offroad Vehicle Association (CCSORVA) yesterday.
We made a run from Ashmun Bay to Strongs on Trail C. We updated signs, cleared a few trees, and verified the signage was correct.
We also installed a new sign at the Ashmun Bay trail head recognizing Yamaha's contribution to the SSMSA. Their funding is used to help maintain our local trail system.”
As always, thank you to our volunteers, members, and donors!
Please consider joining or donating today! The link to our website can be found on our Facebook page. Thank you! ... #soo

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association - Happy May everyone!
Volunteers Ryan, Pete, Brian, and Steve went out today and did some more trail maintenance. Here’s Steve’s report....
“We were able to update more 911 signs and repair lots of winter damaged signs. We picked up lots of trash along the routes too.
Trail 8 from the Soo to Ranger Rd is completed. We also finished Trail 889 in Bay Mills. We were able to do Trail 480 from Raco to Rudyard.
It was a very productive day and near perfect weather.
The highlight of the day may have been the discovery of a small pile of snow just west of Bay Mills🤣
Steve”
We could still use volunteers to go out and pick up trash along the trails. Every little bit helps as it is a never ending job.
Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers and our members that help support us all year long! ... #soo

Thank you again for a great but way too short season.

How do you keep your gates in good shape? Ours are bent up from people pushing on them with trucks.
