SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/27
Ok folks, these pics are from LAST NIGHT when things were looking really great. Highs today in the high 30s and even low 40s as well as lots of sunshine definitely hurt our cause. Our groomers that went out this morning reported that conditions were excellent on the way out but had already deteriorated by their return trip in most areas.
All trails are now soft and some have wet areas. There will be also be moguls, especially on the high traffic trails such as trail 8. We are suspending grooming until at least Monday when temps drop below freezing. Please use caution on all trails. Watch for moguls and wet spots. We are downgrading all trails to fair. Here’s the run down….
City Trails- soft with sloppy corners and some wet spots, moguls on the straightaways
Trail 49- Soo to Kinross- soft with lots of wet spots near the swamp areas
Trail 472 and 480- Kinross to Rudyard and Raco- soft with bare shoulders along the road. Some wet areas
Trail 49, 494 and 472- Kinross south to Pickford- soft with some moguls
Mission Hill trail 889- good, but will have some moguls and soft snow
Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley and Brimley to Raco- very soft, some wet spots and moguls
We will do our best when we can get out to make these trails last as long as possible. Ride safe!❄️❄️❄️

From Groomer Warren this morning. Trail 480 was looking awesome! It is warm and sunny now and we know conditions will deteriorate quickly. We will do what we can when it’s below freezing. Ride safe and watch for changing conditions such as wet spots and bare road shoulders.
Big thanks to Warren and all of our volunteers!❄️❄️❄️
We picked up about 3” last night which will help with the road shoulders and filling in low spots. It’s supposed to be 39 today so conditions may change rapidly. We will be out grooming when it’s below freezing. Ride safe!❄❄❄
SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/26
We had a high of 38 today and it was partly sunny. No doubt that melted the snow off of the road shoulders and made the trails slightly sloppier than yesterday. Groomers are reporting that trails are still in good shape in most of our 100+ mile trail system. Areas where the trail is along the road shoulder are down to pavement. There will also be puddles along the road shoulders. There are some spots where water is saturating the trail but nothing major and our groomers are filling those spots in as best they can. We are grooming as long as the temp stays below freezing. There is a chance of snow all weekend, possibly 2-5”. It will be a very busy weekend so please remember to ride right, watch for other riders and our groomers and be respectful of our landowners.
See you on the trails!❄❄❄
