We Finally have snow to work with. This last system, along with daily lake effect snow has piled up nicely, giving us plenty to work with. Things seem to be holding good as the far as keeping it around. The arctic air is steadily holding over the area. This is forecast for the next 10 days or so. Lake effect snows develop tonight, again most persistent in the snow belts north of the Mighty Mac. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Rough weather earlier this week brought some rain, but the trails survived! Icy base stayed intact and there's still good coverage. The 1-2" of fresh snow on top gave some for lubrication, but still tough to keep your sled cool. Another 4-6" of snow is needed to get trails back in good shape. #cadillac
