Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/28
Back to real life here in Frederic, got home from Grand Marais last night abou ten. Rode 240 miles total up there, parked about 3 miles north of newberry at the lot at the west end of cr 446 and rode to Seney and up to grand marais and around all the crazy 8s trails… I was hoping to see a foot of snow on my sled yesterday morning at the Superior Hotel but really no new snow in town there but just to the west of town a nice fresh 6 to 10 inches of great snow. Trails were very good but did hit bottom every now and then. Really a whole lot of people riding in that area. I had plenty of food packed and most groups I talked to said if you were going to grand marais that nothing was open…..i had enough for two days and i wasnt going to starve to death. Stopped at the hot dog stand outside of town and they were closed but sign said open thurs thru sunday…..darn I missed. There were many trailers heading north as I headed south last night. Had to stop for an hour nap in trout lake……so back here to Frederic, only a couple inches of new fluff since i left here on tuesday with very little snow predicted for the next week. I feel like this coming weekend will be like last weekend where riders are going to do it anyways despite the marginal conditions. On the bright side my friend Roger from south dakota sent me a forcast of 2 storms coming in the next ten days. Don know if they will really hit us but hey it sounds like something to look forward to. So thats it for today. Thanks for checking in. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Another perfect day for riding in northern michigan. Temp has made it to 25 and sled traffic has been steady. The Swamp has been busy all day and its saturday and that makes me think about Frederic Inn prime rib. Went down to Houghton Lake last night for the second friday night at Tip Up Town. I havent been down there in 30 years or probably more. Once a year the State Police come thru Frederic on the train to catch riders doing rail road trespass which can be as simple as being to close to the tracks so the moral of the story is STAY AWAY FROM THE TRACKS. Usually the train has a MSP sign on it but it did not today but I did see a sheriff car following along on old 27. They have been thru twice this afternoon and it was just 2 engines which never happens any other time. Not to much else to say. Thanks for checking in. This has been a busy friday as I keep thinking its saturday. This whole season has brought in alot of people that havent been in here in years. That part is fun to see all of these past customers and memories I have with them. Little kids from years ago that are grown and bringing in their families. Bob Compton from south of Jackson who always says I need men sized shirts in here. He made an apperance here today after a many year absense. Not supposed to be much snow this weekend so get out and ride and enjoy it. Pisten Bully is still down on trail 4/76. NDA ordered Wednesday showed up Saturday afternoon. Crew got out there Sunday but found more damage and parts were ordered today.
If you happen to find this boogie wheel between Alba and trail 76 north of Elmira please notify us, we need to get our hands on it. New part is on order and scheduled to be in tomorrow.
If all goes as planned trails will be back in shape by end of the week.
