The Gogebic Range Trail Authority reports:
Trail Report – 12/13/2016

Trail 2 from the Montreal River in Ironwood to Ramsay Crossing is in good condition; active grooming is taking place daily. Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Marenisco has been panned & rolled and is in fair to poor condition. Trail improvement work on the ascent to Indianhead Mountain from Blackjack Ski Hill as well as the descent from Indianhead Mountain to Wakefield have been straightened to improve safety & easier grooming. Rock and water hole hazards exist from east of Wakefield to the start of the rail grade at Korpela Rd. Trail 8 will be panned 12/14/2016 in anticipation of fresh snowfall.

Trail 160 remains closed due to a bridge replacement across Mud Creek damaged by July 11th storm damage; however, the GRTA is seeking to open the southern half of the trail for local trail access to trail 2. The GRTA expects to reopen Trail 160 January 2017. Trail 11N & 11S remain closed for the season. The club does expect to reopen the trails 2017-2018 season, pending volunteer help to do so. Please join the GRTA today and help reopen trails as well as get trained as a groomer operator! It is time to take action to reinstate the Western U.P. as THE U.P. SNOWMOBILE TRAVEL DESTINATION!

Lake Gogebic Area Groomer Report

Trail conditions remain in poor condition at this time due to wet conditions on some trails. We’ve got lots of snow and we’ve had super cold temps most of this week which are expected thru Sunday. The groomers have driven over all of our trails now, packing them down so they should freeze better, and will then start panning the trails Sunday. Conditions are still very wet, especially in some of the swampy areas like Trail 1 South between the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern and FishTales and areas of Trail 102. At this point our drivers have done everything they can (brushing, signing and packing) to get the trails ready – we just have to wait for the trails to freeze up a little better.

If you’re planning on being up here over Christmas day be aware that all restaurants in the area will be closed for that day.

That’s all for now, keep checking back for more updates as conditions change. For additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com. You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Have a safe ride!
