SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/05
12/5/25
Our Raco crew is crushing it! Already 3 grooms in 2 days! Please keep in mind, on trail 480 there is construction and we cannot groom from 472 to the gate on the Raco side yet.
Here’s Brimley Bill’s report from his run- “After Dave groomed the Mission Hill route (889) , I went out and groomed the route from Raco to Brimley and Raco to Spile Dam (8 and part of 480). Raco has more snow than Brimley or the Soo. I made the first run on 480 to the Spile Dam Road turnaround. A couple photos show how deep the snow was before I packed it down. Use caution on trail 480. There were still tracks from automobile traffic.
Trail 8 gets thinner close to Brimley. There are also some thin spots on the powerline, since it is more exposed to the wind. All in all, this is a great start to the season. More cold nights and snow in the forecast.”
Thank you Bill! Looking awesome, especially for December 5th!! ❄️❄️❄️
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/14/26 Good morning all!! Groomer Warren did one last run for this season for us last night before he heads back to southern MI. Here’s what he had to say- “480 Spile Dam to Brimley and electric lines along 8 were done last night. 4/5 inches of new snow and the trail is in great shape. Saw a lot of riders! Last one of the year for me. Adios😁😁” Thank you Warren!! Safe travels!! #soo #soo0314c#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> Here are a couple probability maps for the snow and ice potential through the full duration of this upcoming spring storm (through 8am on Tuesday). It’s not often that we get to show 90% probabilities of getting 1.5 feet of snow, but that will be the case for much of our region. And the potential for significant icing has started to inch more into the far eastern UP, so we’ll need to keep an eye on that as well. I’ll provide some final updates tomorrow morning before the first impacts start to roll in. In the meantime, enjoy your “day off” from all this whacky spring weather! ⛄️💨🥶 #miweather #munising #seney #newberry #soo #petoskey #gaylord ... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Confidence is increasing in a significant winter storm Saturday night into Monday night. Snowfall amounts between 1 to 3 feet could be near 2-day records in some areas. Strong winds and heavy snowfall rates likely result in blizzard conditions. Widespread impacts: very difficult to impossible travel, power outages, significant recovery time. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo ... See MoreSee Less
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/13/26 Good evening all!! Sorry for the late report- I got to play in the snow today! Shout out to Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. for the great trails today!! Back here in the Soo, looks like we picked up 4-5” today. Hard to say as there’s lots of blowing and drifting. The Raco and Kinross crews were out this morning and this evening. Lane sent us these beautiful shots of 480 through the Spile Dam, one of my favorite sections. The city trails and 49 from the Soo to Kinross have not been done, as we gave them some time to freeze back up. Jay and I will hit the city tomorrow night, and 49 should be done Sunday AM. Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be done by tomorrow morning, and 8 from Brimley to Raco was done tonight. 889 will also be done tonight. It’s going to get wild here on Sunday after a day of sunshine tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted on spring snowmaggedon😅 If we do indeed get 2-3’ of snow, please understand that we all have to dig ourselves out before we can hit the trails, but we will do our best! Thanks all, ride safe! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0313b#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
