Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/20
Gaylord Bureau – February 19, 2025 10:35 AM There’s no shortage of snow in Gaylord! It’s been a great season for riding so far and our trails have seen a tremendous amount of traffic. Unfortunately, both groomers are down with mechanical issues, so grooming has halted until repairs are complete. Currently, the trails are in fair shape but will likely get bumpier. We will keep you updated on the status of our groomers and let you know once grooming resumes. Ride safe and stay tuned for updates! Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord. It’s a nice and calm 16 degrees in Frederic this thursday morning. I had a great ride yesterday leaving Sledheads and heading off to the west. Trail 679 was great and all the way to Starvation Lake was great, then on to Alba and the Jordan Valley Trail. Rode the valley trail and it was a little ripply but not horrible. From there to Elmira with a stop to see Larry at Sevenski Inn. Had a great talk with Larry, he is 91 and still running that place. He said he was going to get his loader started to move some more snow. He said he is just glad he can do that at his age. He looks darn good for 91 and it was very nice to have a talk with him. He stopped in here at Sledheads years ago when I first met him. I headed east from Larrys on 4 and 76 and ended up a few miles north of gaylord on trail 7 and thats when it got rought. Apparenty Gaylord is having groomer issues so I rode back to Frederic and the bumps help keep the speed down. Stopped at Porter Haus at 7 for dinner and I was the only sled there. Hopefully they get the groomers fixed soon. All in All I had a great 90 mile loop. As in the past it seems north and west is the way to head. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. I only saw about a dozen sleds on friday and I see a few over at the swamp this morning probably having the breakfast buffet. Last nite I went there for a mushroom and swiss burger and they had a band. To bad the place was pretty empty. We had about 1 inch of fluff overnight and I dont expect to see to many people today. I had the loader come last nite to move snow at both my storage lot and my parking lot behind Sledheads. It was so bad yesterday after the thaw I needed that big equipment to make it more tolerable. Lake effect snows develop tonight, again most persistent in the snow belts north of the Mighty Mac. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> We lost alot yesterday, made it to about 40 degrees, lots of slush and very dissapointing considering how good it was. Winds are stiff and when this slush hardens up from the cold its gonna make it really rough. So here I sit in Sledheads and it will be a great day for pushing slush and watching t.v. Stop by and say hi if you are in the area. I do still have my rental cottage avaiilable if you want to come and just camp out there for the winter. I wish I had a better report. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its misty rain and 37 degrees on this thursday morning in downtown Frederic. Roads are wet. I finally did see some sleds out and about yesterday, 4 at the Frederic Inn and 5 at Bear Lake Inn and a few guys that drove in here this morning they said they stopped by here after I left yesterday. They had rode up to the bridge and back as they were from Ohio and staying here in Frederic. There is still alot of snow in the woods but things are getting slushy. Pics below are from this morning. – Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.

Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
