Benzie Area Trail Report – 01/01

Eventing update: Trail conditions vary greatly depending on where you are along our 147 miles of trail. To the North near Maple City it is sparse, trail conditions are minimal. To the South near the Manistee River they did not get any new snow and trails are showing some snirt. In the middle of our trail system is Thompsonville and Trail 39 it was hit with about 4 inches of fresh snow today and is great for riding. You just never know where the lake effect will go. One thing is for sure…we want more!

Midday Update:
3 inches of fresh snow has fallen in the last 5 hours and our groomer is reporting great conditions on trails in Copemish and Beulah.

Today is a great day to RIDE ! At this time we are receiving huge snow flakes. Trails are in good condition with a 2-5 inch base and temps are hovering around 20.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 01/01

Happy New Year! Finally, today we had the chance to get out for a ride. It’s a bit quiet today after a hectec week of nonstop no vacancy. After breakfast we eagerly headed out to get the sleds out.
There were very few riders also today. Guess everyone is home recuperating from their celebrations last night.
We were disappointed once we got on the trail. Trail 7 directly along Old 27 out front here was very rough. Bump after bump. No chance to rest and enjoy it at all. Our intention had been to take 7 up into Gaylord, then over to the North/South Loop and onto Lovells/Lewistown. We have had several riders report that was a good ride over there. We decided we did not want to endure trail 7 anymore than what we really had to. We’re just getting too old to tolerant that jostling. It takes the fun out of it. So..
We turned onto trail 4. Which was better. Still some rough spots but not the constant jarring.
We enjoyed 40 miles of fun riding. We did most of it along the roads. Cameron Bridge Road, Deward Road and the roads/trails between. Still very pretty thru the countryside and woods. That heavy snow still several inches thick on the trees.
The groomers have worked hard this week. I think they probably just took the day off to enjoy the holiday like most of us.
