Lake Gogebic Trail Report – Walley Lodge – 01/21

We’ve received about a foot of snow over the last few days with snow in the forecast every day this week! The groomers have been out and while the trails are in “good” condition, there are still some icy spots so use caution. Trail conditions will continue to improve as we continue to receive more snow! Sledding season is here….so get packed up and come on up! This is what you’ve been waiting for!

WARNING: Although as a rule, we never comment about riding on Lake Gogebic itself, as the DNR (the sponsor of our grant money) does not recognize trails over open water – thus there are no trail markings on the lake. However, we’re experiencing a first ever problem on the lake that we want to make sure we inform our riders about for their safety. We have reports of two large holes of open water between the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern (at the northwest corner of the lake) and Fishtales Resort (approx. 6 miles south of the Hoop on the west shore). There are reports, also, of ice heaves on either side of these open holes. Please use caution and ride slow enough to see far ahead of you. These conditions could change rapidly so please use caution.

FYI – the Bergland Mobil has closed, so plan your fueling accordingly.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 01/21

Just like that! … trail conditions have greatly improved. Many happy riders coming in tonight from their rides. Grooming resumed late yesterday. Add the snow from all day today and everyone is satisfied.

I really don’t understand why we have had only a lake snow advisory. Its blizzard conditions out there! The roads have ice under the snow. All roads! Its snowed steadily, the wind has been blowing very strong and it was only 5 degrees at 3 pm. That sounds like a blizzard to me.

Riders have had great rides. The ones we have talked to went west thru Lakes of North and Starvation Lake. And north up to Indian River and their trails. Everyone had fun. No complaints.

That does make us happy. Just wish we could get out to take a ride ourselves. Bitter temps means to wear your warmest gear. Its looking like tomorrow will be the most miserably cold day of this week.

Snow continues to be in the forecast every day of the 7 day forecast.
