Newberry Trail Report – Halfway Lake Resort – 02/01

Guests who rode yesterday have different opinions. I heard everything from "phenomenal" to "they are getting rough and need to be groomed". Guests report #9 to be excellent. #8 towards Whitefish was "bumpy" and needed to be groomed. The overall picture is that a trail may be excellent in the morning but due for a grooming by evening. Between Grand Marais-Newberry-Paradise there are HUNDREDS of miles of trails that are groomed on a daily basis. Off trail riding is also at its finest. We received 10" of heavy snow 1/30-31 and another 4" of lake effect since then. Here, north of Newberry, they are calling for up to 8" in the next 24 hrs.

Please ride safe. We are receiving multiple complaints of a hole on trail #45- about 15 miles North of Nby near Skyline Rd. There is a plowed portion of the trail, once it returns to groomed trail (heading from Newbs towards The Falls) the hole is about 1-2 miles past the plowed portion.

We have asked our guests to update us on conditions when they return. In turn, we will update you when we are able. If you have been out riding and you are able to email us an update, that would be appreciated. Please understand we are unable to reply to emails regarding trail conditions/updates. We will do our best to compile this info and post.

We are located 12 mi NW of Newberry and 7 miles S of Pinestump Junction. Between Grand Marais and Paradise.

Thank you for your phone calls. Availability:We are full through Friday night with an opening for Saturday-Wednesday 2/2, 2/3, 2/4, 2/5 and 2/6. Full again through 2/9.

Newberry Trail Report – 02/01

We received about 10′ of snow yesterday and last night.

Trail #9 was groomed last night. The groomers report a very good to excellent trail up to Pine Stump/Holland Lake staging area. It is snowing, and the scenery is beautiful.

Trail #45 is plowed from Skyline Road to the north 3 miles for logging. USE EXTREME CAUTION IN THE PLOWED AREA WHERE THEY ARE LOGGING. This area is very icy with large dips please be careful. The trail is in very good condition other than that. Lou said we can now measure the snow in feet instead of inches.

Trail #9/2 to Epoufette/ Trout Lake is in good condition, as they did get about 6′ of snow. The trail to Epoufette is in good condition. The trail #473 to Trout Lake, the snow is thin along the railroad tracks to Trout Lake. We did loose some of the trail due to the rain.

THE NORTH STORE ON CO. RD. 407,WILL BE OPEN THIS YEAR.

The curfew for the Village of Newberry is 11:00 P.M. until 7:00 A.M.

FYI: There will not be gas at Rainbow Lodge as they are closed due to the Duck Lake fire. There is a gas pump logo on the trail map, but they will be CLOSED.
