Indian River Trail Report – 02/19

Trail conditions…hmmm…Yesterday temperatures climbed above freezing but it didn’t keep our groomers from going out. Both trails were groomed and are in good shape. During their groom last night we started to get some light precipitation. Temperatures stayed slightly above freezing overnight and made everything icy. Side roads are icy and most schools have today off. Main roads are wet and the temperature has dropped several degrees since early this morning. The wind has picked up and it’s feeling like winter outside. If you ride today expect some icy areas. Forecasters are calling for at least an inch of fresh snow today. Assuming we stay under freezing trails will hold up just fine. Have a good day everyone, and thanks for reading.

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on the the trails however with the high winds there is drifting and poor visibility. Trails have been in very good condition. There is some logging being done on trails 122 & 133 so please watch for the signs and be aware.

Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula – February 18

This was the Keweenaw Convention and Visitor’s Bureau yesterday afternoon…

The CopperDog 150 sled dog race will be held on portions of the snowmobile trail system March 1 through March 3. Please use caution and take advantage of alternate routes.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Remember to watch out for the groomers and deer when you’re out on the trails…..they have the right of way!!

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
