Indian River Trail Report – 01/16

Although we need more, we’re thankful for the snow we got overnight. It’s about an inch of new stuff–pretty light and fluffy. We need more snow before we can groom but the south end of our trail system is actually in decent shape. There’s a little more snow down that direction and traffic has been light. We’re still dealing with water holes in a few spots on the north part of Trail 76. You’ll see a sign saying “WET AREA” right before the largest hole. They all should be frozen enough now to support snowmobile traffic. We’re in the mid-20’s and light snow is falling. The radar shows snow over us but the weather people say it will taper off this afternoon. We’ve got a light wind out there but overall it’s comfortable riding weather. Tonight we’ll dip down to single digits and may see a little light snow. So there you have it–conditions are good at the south end of Indian River and fair as you head north of town (just not as much snow). Enjoy your day out there and THINK SNOW!…Are you interested in a volunteer leadership position in our grooming club? We need a dedicated volunteer to assist the club president and learn the ropes before he retires. For more information visit our website and send an email. Thank you!

Newberry Trail Report – 01/16

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association – 1/16

Jan. 16, 2020 8:00am Updates below GREEN

UPDATE: The fresh snow is falling and 3-6" expected through tonight and more on the way for Saturday. The trails are in better than good and will be close to excellent which the fresh snow will push it right over the top for a great weekend with the amount of traffic expected. Traffic has been light all week. The details for the trails are detailed below. We Take Pride in Your Ride!!

There is a staging area north of town at Silver Creek 3 miles north. This is crucial information especially with the amount of traffic this weekend. If you don’t want to get hemmed up in the parking lot in town. Go north after crossing the tracks and take a left at the Silver Creek ORV sign and go to the dead end. Plenty of room there!

A friendly reminder is slow down and stay to the right especially on the corners. Stay on the trail. Private property owners gives us the privilege to have trails across their property and we do not want to lose it. Normal grooming operations are in full swing.

TASA works mostly with volunteers. We have the best groomers in the U.P. They dedicate long hours and nights away from their families to groom the trails so you can enjoy them safely. Please be cautious as you approach a groomer as there is not much room for them and you so please slow down and once there is room then go around them. It is always appreciated when you can tip your hat to them and thank them for their efforts or give them a wave. Be Safe out there and take time to enjoy nature and the best scenery the U.P has to offer.

The Northstore on Cnty Rd 407 is open from 9am and closes at 11pm 7 days a week. Gas, Snacks and general information. Sled Rentals Available!

The Wolf Inn is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm. Food.

The Pine Stump is open 7 days a week now Mon.-Sun. 11am to 10pm for the kitchen.

Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub is open.
Trail #9/2/473 (Great) (South of Newberry) There is a water hole 3 miles south of M-28 at 4 corners. We will groom the South trail tonight all the way to Epouffette and over to Trout Lake.
Trail #45 (Great) There is one area of interest. It is from Skyline Road for 3 miles that is plowed due to logging. Please use caution when going through this area. We will groom all the ways to the Falls tomorrow night. We groomed it last night and it is looking good.
Trail #9 (Great) We will groom all the way to Holland Lake tonight and tomorrow.
Trial #498 off of Trail 9 NE over to the Northstore for gas will be groomed tonight and again tomorrow.

Swamps are not frozen!!
Curfew in the Village of Newberry is 11:00pm to 7:00am.
