Traverse City Trail Report – 12/31

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club – 12/31

I went for a ride on our trail system last night. I rode from the Kalkaska warming hut down to Ranch Rudolf and then up the north trail back to Kalkaska. We received 3 to 4 inches of snow two days ago. There is still a lot of ice on the trails. Can you ride? Yes but use extreme caution and watch out for ice in the corners. I would have to rate the trails poor to fair depending on what part of the system you are riding. The areas to the north seem to be fair and the snow seems to thin out to the south. I read a report from one of the groomers in Kalkaska that said they didn’t even start running their groomers until the middle of January last year. We are still running groomers trying to maintain the base so that when we do get snow the trails will improve quickly. Hang in there everyone the conditions should improve soon assuming we get some snow. Hoping for a great riding season in 2021. Happy new year everyone!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club >> The winter weather advisory has come and gone. The trails took a hit this weekend with all the traffic. Luckily, we had a narrow lake effect band set up shop on Sunday and dropped a foot of fluff in some areas on the trail. Elsewhere, we received 2-6 inches. A few club members went out to check the trails on their sleds, and rated the trails as good, with some snirt in areas.
We will be panning this new snow before the warm up this week. Hopefully, this warn up doesn't hurt the base too much.
When your out on the trails and your looking for a place to eat. Check out our business sponsor Fife Lake Inn. Located on beautiful Fife Lake, their your family-friendly go-to spot for casual American dining, cold beverages and good times. Show them your tether and tell them GTASC sent you and receive 10% off your order. #traversecity #snowphotos

It’s started! We have tractors out tonight on the north and middle system to help pack what we have in. We have VERY EARLY season conditions so please set your expectations accordingly. West trails are still closed and the Newaygo groomer is not out yet. Please help us by picking up debris and branches from the trail.

Also remember we will not answer private messages asking about trail conditions. If we are grooming, we will update this page.
Thank you for your support and enjoy our trails!..
