MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 02/20
TRAIL REPORT – Saturday, 2/20/2021 TRAILS HANGING ON!
No new snow and Operators reporting great grooming results. Trails are staying fairly flat through the day but the snow is starting to get worn out. Because of that we are stepping back to “Very Good” overall conditions. Parts of Trails 419 and Trail 8 North of Shingleton are starting to get some icy corners. Ride with caution. We really do need more new snow so get the snow dances going again. Please respect residential property owners and STAY ON THE TRAIL, No Snowmobile Signs mean just that. Please DO NOT run the Powerlines off of Trail 419. Our Team of volunteer Groomer Operators will continue to do their best to keep trails flat so; get out and ENJOY the Trails Ride Safe and Stay Tuned for updates! Another Friday night groom is in the books, we found a Polaris side panel on trail 8 about a mile west of Chatham Friday night if anyone got back from riding and noticed theirs missing.

WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> I'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations could be 1-2', if not higher, as high-res model guidance comes in when we get closer.

Light snow is possible south of an Iron Mountain to Escanaba line but any accumulation will be very light. GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
