Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/21

Saw quite a few snowmobiles out over the weekend. Overall trails Fair to Good…some a little better-some a litte worse.
Groomers from the four clubs are all out on the trails.
Gogebic Range Trail Authority still has that ‘heads up’ – trail 11S closed for about a week due to logging. Now the good news on this trail is they are working on a permanent re-route around that wet hole that causes so much trouble. Again the closure shouldn’t last too long and we’ll keep you informed. In addition, 11N has NOT been groomed yet, as there are areasstill too wet to groom.
Gogebic Area Groomers-everything is freshly groomed-trails in pretty good shape…a few rough areas where there was logging are well marked.
Watersmeet groomers reporting all trails freshly groomed and improving.
In Ontonagon, one of two groomers is out…the other expects to be in action this week…watch for ice East on Trail 12, Norwich Rd. and LP Walsh.
Remember, groomers can be out any time of the day or night so PLEASE pull over when you see them.
Keep in mind, although MI trails opened December 1st, they may or may not be groomed. WI Trails are now officially open.
Check out web cams throughout the area to see the snow amounts for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 12/20

Ray’s Retreat had a full house this weekend. Riders returned last evening stated the trails were great thru the morning and afternoon hours. No complaints. Later afternoon the snow was ‘soft and mushy’. The groomer had went thru but after just a few sleds you couldn’t really tell.

It has gotten colder. It was low 30s yesterday. Today high temp was in low 20’s. Still snow on the trail and in decent shape.

We do need a fresh layer of snow for those corners and to freshen things.
