Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report – Wolf Lake Motel and Resort – 01/22

Hi Everyone, Sunday a freezing rain/snow mix then Monday the temp is forecasted to drop back to normal and snow. Spring like conditions are here and getting into and around any town is going to be rough on your sled. If you just can’t wait to ride or this is your only weekend you have off and are willing to trailer to a trailhead, you could get a ride in. Just as long as you have realistic expectations while you’re out there, you will have a decent ride, with spring like conditions. But once you get to the trail, you will most likely be the only rider out there. I doubt that any grooming will continue until it gets colder and more snow and the way it sounds we should be back grooming by the middle of next week. (If the forecast is correct) One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office. Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm

Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available. Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/22

Our Big Snow Country official Season Snowfall to date remains at 113.7". For the most part, conditions are unchanged. Groomers are all out working to keep the trails in as good shape as possible. Overall, conditions are good tho there are areas where riding will be fair.
Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Most trails in good condition altho you may run into an occassional bare spot-nothing to hinder your ride. Grooming is ongoing- 11 N is groomed-11S is groomed regularly…still watch out for Logging Trucks on that quarter-mile narrow stretch. The trucks do have the right of way so pull over if you see them. Signs are posted in the area. Trails 2-8 and 160 are all groomed or in the process of being groomed.
From the Lake Gogebic Area-everything is being groomed and in pretty good shape, however south of the lake expect trails to be marginal with bare spots and rocks. They will improve with more snow. IMPORTANT: There are still some Logging Trucks in the vicinity of the junction of 102 AND 8-W. You MAY NOT ride plowed roads-you MUST observe the snowmobile trail signs. Stay on the trails and if you see a logging truck, pull over immediately.
Watersmeet groomers reporting trails groomed daily and conditions fair to good.
IN ALL AREAS:
You need to be aware groomers can be out any time of the day or night, so PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.
We want you to have lots of fun and a great time…therefore, your safety is our #1 priority.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
MAP ERROR
There are errors regarding the location of Paulding, MI, which is a new advertiser on this year’s Trail Map. The red dot (#85)was mistakenly placed 1/2" south of where it should be and there also should be a GAS icon at Paulding. Snowmobile access to Paulding is via plowed County Rd-shoulders only.
ABOUT THE ICE:
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

Check out web cams throughout the area to see the snow amounts for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info
