Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/18

Just got a report from one of our hearty groomers – has moved 73 trees off the trail from Mohawk to Copper Harbor, over Brockway and there is almost 0 visibility because of the blowing snow. The Harlow trail over Brockway to Copper Harbor is in bad shape….lots of dirt and asphalt. Anyone out on any trails, even cross country, needs to be really careful today.

What a difference a few days can make! It is freezing out today, its snowing sideways, and there have been 64 mph gusts reported! Mt Bohemia is closed due to high winds. Snowmobilers need to watch out for downed trees and branches on the trails. Everything that was soft yesterday is now like cement!

Groomers Report: — The snowmobile trails from TwinLakes to CopperHarbor are open, and groomers are out working on them. Trails are reported to range from poor condtion in towns and low snow areas to good condition in the woods. Due to high winds, there are many trees and branches down on the trails, so please use caution today.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails…….they have the right of way!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trail 133 between Gay and Lac La Belle.

*Please be aware that during the CopperDog 150 dog sled race on March 4 – 6 Keweenaw Trails Services will be temporarily closing segments of its snowmobile trail system while the race is using them. Alternative routes will be available.*

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
