KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> 03/18

📣 This just in from riders returning from riding the Keweenaw 3/17/25

“We rode 5 hours yesterday. Trail 3 from The Trailside Lodge ➡️ Trail 132 around Lac La Belle ➡️ Trail 134 ➡️ 136 to High Rock! Excuse me if I have any trail #s wrong, but they were all great trails! Even if icy in areas, still in good shape. It was a fantastic day! We ended our season at High Rock. Trail 136 was very rideable, better than I’ve seen it in past!

Thanks for all of your great info this season! Your posts are great and helpful info. Thank you! We appreciate you!”

Thank you so much for sharing and your words of appreciation! It’s great to hear you are glad you made the choice to come ride the Keweenaw one last time this season!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> 03/18

Never say never! Literally just about every season riders say “it’s over…. Long before it’s truly over” in SOME riders eyes!

We get it…. Spring riding isn’t for everyone…but for those that do enjoy, what can sometimes be a challenge, but “worth it” to them, we will keep updating you!

John Vogler rode the Keweenaw today and this was his detailed report
“hi there . here is our ride today:

tried to find a place to park, ended up parking by Vansville/Cliff View. We rode trail 3 north, pretty “snicy” as we like to call it – snow and ice. A little chop to it, a recent groomer run would have helped huge. We got to 132W, took that down toward Lac La Belle. This trail was excellent. There were a couple washouts where it said wet area, but small spots. We were very happy. Tgen we continued up on 132, it was pretty good, very little chop. We then took 134 east. 134 had a little chop to.it, but decent, again, a groomer run here yesterday would have made it excellent. We took 134 around then 135 back down to 134. This was a little snicy. couple bare spots, but could go around them no problem. Then 134, and 3 back to the truck. It was overall ok to pretty decent. a groomer run would have made it perfect, but I guess they aren’t running and not sure why. Trail 3 was a little icy coming back. Hope this helps others. Thanks!”

Thanks John for that update and happy to hear you were able to enjoy the day of late season riding.
Only time will tell what this incoming “storm” actually produces. We just want you to be aware, of the forecast and potential for still riding if you choose to do so. Please checkout www.keweenawcountyonline.org to see previous years snowfalls. It appears the majority of this forecasted storm will head closer to the Big Bay/Kiva area as Bob shared in screenshots from Accuweather!

Thanks again, John, for sharing your update!

Anyone coming up yet for a spring ride just make not the bridge will be closed. If staying on south side of the bridge you would have to trailer across and park over there to ride on the north side of the bridge.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> Brrrrrr….. 🥶it was definitely a cold day to ride the Keweenaw, but Jason Kremer definitely wasn’t complaining!
Jason and crew headed out today from the Ramada in Hancock and rode up to Copper Harbor for the Winter Wonderfest & Park
Lighting Event! (Checkout the video Jason shared with us in the comments!)
Jason is a frequent rider of the Keweenaw and today definitely didn’t disappoint! Jason shared these photos and said, “You definitely need to tode to Copper Harbor tomorrow! Trails are not freshly groomed but they are flat and fast! The only slightly bumpy part was the trail up Brockway, but not bad for a Saturday in the Kee! There is zero traffic today, only met one group of sledders all the way from Hancock to Copper Harbor. Having a blast, will send you pics when I get service. Maybe we will run into a groomer on the way back!”
Well, as you can see from one of Jason’s photos, they did come across a groomer on the way back from Copper Harbor!
We hope you all enjoyed your Saturday as much as Jason did!
Please note as of right now the, The Portage Lake Lift Bridge is not yet open for snowmobile crossing. That means you can not cross from Houghton to Hancock…. yet.
The Coast Guard needed to close the shipping lanes and then the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club and the city need to coordinate laying the snow mat for sled crossing…. Hopefully, very soon!
Thanks as always for sharing, Jason! #keweenaw #snowphotos

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Fletchy’s Otter Belly Lodge >> Imagine this: it’s 9pm & 10 degrees out on a crystal clear night in the Keweenaw. You’re on a narrow trail in the middle of the woods. Hundreds of miles of untouched trails ahead of you.
Throttle to the bars. Like a rocket ship you accelerate forward. Pines shimmer in your headlights. You and your sled become one. Every worry melts away.
You let off and come to a stop. You shut it down. Absolute silence. Moon above. Stars dancing. NOTHING BEATS THIS!
Had my first ride of the year tonight and it NEVER gets old ❄️

Sault Ste. Marie Area Trail Report – 03/19

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/19

3/19/25 the official warning. Most of this will be west of the Soo, so areas like Bay Mills, Raco, Strongs, Trout Lake, Hulbert, and Paradise should benefit the most! Be safe if you’re traveling or riding! Downed trees are possible with high winds and heavy snow. Enjoy some late season riding safely! ❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/18

3/18/25
Hello everyone!

You may have noticed some movement on Groomer Tracker. Sadly, our machine that stays in Kinross during the season has been brought back to the Soo. There’s just too much water and not enough snow to warrant keeping it there “just in case”. Anything south of the Soo is pretty much down to a mix of ice, old snow, dirt, and water.

The good news is that the trails from the Soo and west toward Brimley, Bay Mills, and Raco still have a solid base, although it is icy for the time being. Road sides and crossings are bare. Grooming continues to be on pause in these areas as we cannot and will not groom ice. It’s too hard on the equipment and does absolutely nothing.

We are watching with cautious optimism for the return of some measureable snow tomorrow into Thursday. Some models show a couple of inches, others show up to 8 or 9”.

Any new snow will help, but it’s going to take some significant snow for us to justify rolling groomers out. If the snow flys, get out and enjoy it where you can! A few fresh inches on top of a solid base will make for some pretty decent late season riding!

We’ll keep you posted!!❄🤞❄

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/12/2025
Winter storm warning has been issued! We are expecting fresh snow over most of our area. As of today, everything is as flat as if can be. The cold has really helped with the water holes and sleds are passing all areas easily.
Mike and our newest trainee just completed the city trails. We have made the decision to leave the city trails and trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross alone as far as grooming until Sunday. With fresh snow on top of a flat base, we think this is best for riders and will allow you to have snow for cooling vs a super hard packed trail, and will really help freeze up any remaining soft spots.
Our spare Tucker is running triple duty while we await a fix for our newer Tucker that has an electrical issue. This is another reason we have made this decision. Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be prioritized if it is determined that grooming is needed.
Our Raco, Bay Mills, Brimley, and Kinross south areas remain on the normal schedule.
Please see the pinned post regarding trail 480 and part of 572 in the Spile Dam area.
It should be a great weekend! Thanks all!! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo12/12/2025
