Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/08 – groomers will be going out tomorrow to start opening trails

This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Thursday, December 8, 2016.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open but trails are in poor condition. The groomers will be going out tomorrow to start opening trails and clearing any hazards.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is very low snow cover in most areas and a lot of water. There are rocks, stumps, branches, and other hazards that have not been identified.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for riders’ safety so please DO NOTE remove or destroy them.

Snowfall & Weather Report:

Snowfall in the Keweenaw Peninsula – 8 inches of snow on the ground, 30 inches fallen to date as of 12/7/16.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – Visit Cadillac – 12/08

Groomer Report – Thursday, December 8

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter.

We’ve picked up about 2 inches so far and TV 9 and 10 says we could get 6-12 inches by Saturday morning.

Sure hope we manage to get closer to the 12 inch mark than the 6. We’ll keep you posted as the storm progresses.

Temps are supposed to stay below freezing for some time so what we get should stay with us for a while.

We will conducting driver education and last minute groomer maintenance at two of our barns on Saturday. Our stand-by groomer (JD 7400) is going back into service this season. She will be grooming our trails in the Mesick area. We welcome the four new Mesick area groomer operators to our organization.
