Drummond Island Trail Report – 01/06

OFFICIAL GROOMER’S REPORT – (1/6/17)

TRAIL CONDITIONS: The base varies from 1 inch to 8 inches. There is currently a logging operation on the Trail #493 (the Plains area) for 7 miles. This logging will continue all winter. Over all we are rating the trails as poor but there are areas that are in good shape. Ride with caution!

West End: West end of the island is in decent shape except near Canoe Bay where the snow is thin.

East End: The east shoreline has very little snow and water was still running on the trail as of January 4th in this area. Most of the other holes have frozen and are currently passable. The cold temps we are experiencing should help freeze the rest in. The groomer will be staying off this area for the next few days to help the ice get thicker.

Remember it takes less than 15 mins for hypothermia to set in once you’re wet so use extreme caution near these water holes!

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/06

It’s a cool but sunny morning in Frederic. First thing I saw on the trail this morning near my house were 3 deer running down the trail. Our 3 day Winter Storm Warning really didn’t give us much snow. It was minus 1 this morning and is supposed to be a nice low temp weekend. All trails and crossings I looked at this morning looked nice and white and I think they will stay that way with the cold temps. Lot of trailers already in town with 22 at the Ramada and 8 at the Days Inn.
