We have milder weather for the next several days. Our temps will be in the 30’s for highs and high teens to 20’s for the lows.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority reports:
Trail Report – 12/13/2016

Trail 2 from the Montreal River in Ironwood to Ramsay Crossing is in good condition; active grooming is taking place daily. Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Marenisco has been panned & rolled and is in fair to poor condition. Trail improvement work on the ascent to Indianhead Mountain from Blackjack Ski Hill as well as the descent from Indianhead Mountain to Wakefield have been straightened to improve safety & easier grooming. Rock and water hole hazards exist from east of Wakefield to the start of the rail grade at Korpela Rd. Trail 8 will be panned 12/14/2016 in anticipation of fresh snowfall.

Trail 160 remains closed due to a bridge replacement across Mud Creek damaged by July 11th storm damage; however, the GRTA is seeking to open the southern half of the trail for local trail access to trail 2. The GRTA expects to reopen Trail 160 January 2017. Trail 11N & 11S remain closed for the season. The club does expect to reopen the trails 2017-2018 season, pending volunteer help to do so. Please join the GRTA today and help reopen trails as well as get trained as a groomer operator! It is time to take action to reinstate the Western U.P. as THE U.P. SNOWMOBILE TRAVEL DESTINATION!

Lake Gogebic Area Groomer Report

Trail Condition: Poor
Last Groomed: December 19th, 2016
Base: 14″
Past 24hr: 0″

Trails 1 North to White Pine, 13 South and 8 East were all groomed today; however, trails are in rough condition at this early date. Grooming efforts will continue as allowed. A lot of wet conditions also continue, even with the below zero temps we’ve had. Our extreme cold temps will be returning to more normal numbers after today, possibly a little too warm. If temps rise too close to 30 degrees we’ll be forced to do nighttime and early morning grooming only. However there is more snow in the forecast through this next week.

Gogebic Area Grooming really needs your support at this time more than ever. You can be a part of our grooming efforts with a sponsorship of $25 for single, $30 for family and $75 for businesses. However we’d greatly appreciate a donation of any amount. These can be sent to “Gogebic Area Grooming” at “115 Hoop ‘N Holler Rd / Merriweather, MI 49947” or you can find sponsorship pads at most businesses around the lake with our map boxes, where you can also deposit donations. All map money is intended to benefit the grooming efforts in our area. If you mail your sponsorship or donation to the above address be sure to include contact info, as well.

If you’re planning on being up here over Christmas day be aware that all restaurants in the area will be closed for that day as well as early closing on Christmas Eve.

That’s all for now, keep checking back for more updates as conditions change. For additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com. You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Have a safe ride!
