It’s finally getting colder; we’ve had a little bit of snow with more in the forecast over the next few days. The forecast is calling for about 1-3 inches tonight, a possible additional 3” on Friday with 2 to 4” on Saturday. Temps are expected to be dropping more as we head into the weekend, as well. The groomers are good to go and have started heading out where possible. One report back to us so far is on Trail 102 where we had a wet hold previously at the north end there now appears to be water running down the trail. Our driver says you can ride around it without getting wet but you need to watch for this problem. Trail 8 west is looking very wet – early season conditions. Please do not try to ride in the ditch along this stretch as you will end up in even more water. Best to try to avoid this trail for right now. Groomers will be heading out on all of our trails to access the damage from our warm up and to groom wherever they can. Just keep in mind that there will be wet areas reopened up on almost all trails so keep speeds down and watch for changing conditions.

Streams, rivers and swampy areas are not safe at this time, please avoid.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticketed. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant. If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/26

New Snow fell overnight, we had 3 to 4 inches of thick heavy snowfall overnight.

Trouble is there is snow in the air right now and its 36 degrees. I even just saw 5 sleds ride by a few minutes ago. This snow once sleds are thru it once will be mush.

We need temps to go way down which they are supposed to start doing and lake effect coming in the next couple of days. It doesn’t matter that I say trails are junk there are always riders that get out there. Even last night the Gaylord groomer ran down trail 7 to Frederic, I don’t know what he was trying to do but it in my opinion it was way to warm for it to be out there.

I took the same three pictures again this morning that I have done the past few days. Sure makes it look nice out there. The Darkside Adventures guys are riding up where there is good snow. They are up northeast of Maine and crossed the St Lawrence Seaway on the ferry this morning. Here is a link to their tracking so you can see where at least someone is having fun riding. Darkside Adventures Tracking Link from there you can see their daily updates under the Frost Bytes Tab. The 3 million mark came up yesterday and as before I had multiple people that sent me pics at the 3 million mark, however Mark Cosens was the first one in at 1:12 p.m. with the first pic of the counter. So he gets the goodies, 4 spikeburgers, sledheads sweatshirt, koozies and key chain. Honorable mention also goes to Monty Wiseman who came in at same time as Mark did, Carl Vanallen, John Kotara all who came in afterwards still at 3 million. I don’t know how or why the counter does that as it did it last time too. That’s why I say first one in gets the goodies. Also had previous winner Chris Rybicki come in at 3000001 Thanks to all who tried. Lets hope the snow keeps coming. I really don’t believe we will get enough to make it a good riding weekend but this is a start. Below I am pasting a note about recreational trespass from the DNR. There was a local property owner that stopped to see me the other day and he is not happy about sleds on his property. It should be the same for everyone, this is the rules from the DNR plus some common sense should be included too otherwise don’t be surprised if you get a ticket.
