Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/25

Greetings Sledders,

Things aren’t looking so pretty good for this weekend. I took a road trip today to take a gander at all of our crossings and found that basically the trails north of Frederic still had some snow on them and as you travel to the south of Frederic the snow gets thinner to the point of turning to dirt when you get to M-72 and points south.

There is snow in the forecast for tonight and we are in an advisory area until 5 tomorrow morning. I’m doubting that this will be enough if it does happen due to the ground being very wet and the majority of the snow that does come will be snuffed out by the water.

Cold temps are in the forecast for this weekend and once the trails freeze I will send groomers to the north and to the east (the Lovells trail looks to be in decent shape) to get a better assessment of what is actually left. Generally there are two things that drive grooming activities, those being snowfall and traffic. If we don’t get the snow and there’s something left to work with and traffic dictates we will do what we can with what we’ve got. If that means going over the road to get to workable snow it won’t be a first time, it’s happened before.

This certainly gives new meaning to the phrase ‘January thaw’. Usually a day or two or maybe three, but half the month?

I’m calling it not-rideable to poor.

Good luck.
Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

Paradise Area Trail Report – Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/25

January 25, 2017

34 degrees this morning and partly cloudy. Looks like we didn`t get below freezing AGAIN last night. The weather does look like it will turn around though and we still have a solid foot of snow on the ground. The weather guessers are saying snow starting tomorrow and keep going into next week. The temps are supposed to cool down too. So here`s the plan for today…..

We are grooming the Point trails, the Pine Stump trail and the Falls trail today. We will hit the south trail tomorrow but probably by-pass the swamp for now…..need snow to get in there. You can get into town from the south by riding the UNPLOWED portion of M-123. Ditch bang that is! It is not easy but it can be done. We can not groom down the side of the road because of permit issues…so don`t send me a bunch of hate mail….its not on us!!! All the guys grooming today will get back with me, hopefully, and let me know how it went and then I can let ya`ll know tomorrow morning.

Our problem groomer is STILL down. We are working on it and have made some progress…..and thats all it got to say about that.

So check back tomorrow morning, hopefully we don`t run into too many problems today and I`ll have all good news for ya. Groomer Chris
