FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/12 Sunny sunday 34 degrees in downtown Frederic, a couple sleds out but things are heading downhill fast. There really were alot of sleds out and about on saturday but things were wearing down quickly. Several riders reporting good rides and great off trail Now we are gonna get hurt again for the next four or five days….same old Blah Blah Blah…… A group of riders lost a bunch of things out of a pack yesterday, they lost a phone, a wallet and a key fob for a new GMC truck with 4 or 5 keys on it. Let me know if anyone comes across this. They did find the wallet so that part was good. Pics below are from saturday. Top pic is the Obama Tour 2024 with their women. Quiet outside and not alot of riders on wednesday. You couldnt ask for better conditions. I drove up to Gaylord last nite and the sleds I saw on the trail coming at me were riding nice and smooth. Once again we had about another 4 inches of lake effect overnight. We have to be pushing about 4 feet of snow total this season. Havent seen that in a long time. I have not seen a groomer yet this season and I have seen many complaints about 679 but mostly all good reports. I didnt even take any pics yesterday so thats it for today. Thanks for checking in. Several inches of snow is expected across parts of northwest lower and eastern upper Michigan, including the potential for localized amounts of 6-8” or more. A couple locations will pick up 1-3" or greater within the most intense bands. We are monitoring the Kalkaska county region the closest for potential upgrades, but this should be a good base forecast to get you through the end of the day on Thursday, December 11th. This forecast starts at 5 pm EST this evening when the advisories end for the system, while the lake effect bands begin coming on shore. A couple of squalls may produce blowing snow, reduced visibilities under half a mile, and a very miniscule chance for thundersnow. Areas without a color designation are not anticipated to benefit from the lake effect snow this time around. Some areas are looking at up to 6"of snow.
Rain falling into cold snow pack roads will cause some very slick conditions. Dirt roads, I'm talking to you! You know this already, though haha.
Most treated roads to the south will be ok, though. Anywhere all snow all the time (north of I-96) will be very slow going!
