Munising Area Trail Report – 02/08
TRAIL REPORT, Wednesday, February 8, 2023 7:30 a.m. SUNNY DAY OF WARM RIDING CONDITIONS! Overall Trails were grooming out nice last night and in Very Good condition. We have a warm spell passing through again today. Get out and enjoy some great mid-season riding conditions. We do have a few trouble spots with one being the Trail 419 creek crossing between Munising and Wetmore. Water Hazards on Trail 418 are gone now but there is still a depression at the West hole location (marked with stop and stop ahead signs). Keep a close eye on trail conditions as you ride and stay right. Stay tuned for updates! Conditions remain great with a warmup coming. Expecting the trail to hold well, but will get rough as the snow gets wet. We will be watching conditions and grooming accordingly. We should be able to continue grooming, but if conditions are not cool enough at night, we may have to park the groomer. Our operators know the trail well and will be making the call if needed. Rest assured, they will get it back to great as fast as they can. These guys always do great work! WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> The first round of snow continues through mid-morning before most get a brief dry period into this afternoon; snow showers persist in the Keweenaw. Then a transition over to lake effect snow over the west to northwest wind snowbelts. 3 to 7 inches of snowfall over the east tonight into Sunday morning. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another system brings a quick round of light to moderate snowfall late tonight into early Saturday. A widespread 1-3 inches of snow is expected, possibly locally higher up to 3-4in in the eastern UP. A change over to lake effect snow is expected in the NW wind snow belts Saturday afternoon, lingering into Sunday. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
