Newberry Trail Report – 01/28
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 01/28 *We have one groomer down and one only partially working, we are doing the best we can with what we have! January28, 2023 12 pm The trails are good in the majority of the area we did receive 10" of fresh snow last night. We groomed to the falls last night and got the groomer fixed enough to make the run back from winter haven to the groomer barn. We do still have one groomer down so we will do what we can. Today we are running north to holland lake and 45 to the falls and if everything goes well tonight we will head south to Borgstrum rd after the groomer returns from the falls. Every trail has some logging on it also there are some water holes still open in a few spots so please ride with caution and care! The details are below for specific trail grooming. Tickets: $100.00 each Drawing held April 22, 2023 @ 7:00pm at the Elks Lodge in Newberry 300 tickets printed If less than 125 tickets are sold then the raffle will revert to a 50/50 drawing. Tickets can be purchased from: Renze Power Sports, Halfway Lake Cottages, North Store Follow Me Outfitters, Pine Stump Restaurant, Schubach Farms Cabin Rentals, or Proceeds will go to fund trail grooming equipment! Good Luck! Trail 9: We groomed south from winter haven to the groomer barn last night. Good! logging operations are finishing up but county road 422 is still being plowed to finish hauling everything out, so be careful roads are icy. Trail 498: not done yesterday. Very Good. Trail 45: The gate is open to the Falls. We are currently grooming out to the falls. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good to excellent in spots!! Trial 9/2: We did not groom last due to mechanical issues. Very Good. Did a nice 250 mile loop through Pine Stump road- Wolf Inn- Eagles Nest- Seney- Took 43 up to 8 and back to Grand Marias to Paradise. We skipped the Paradise side of 8 for the most part and everything we ran was great today. The new snow was just what the trails needed- another foot or two and off trail riding will begin! There is a large section scraped to the ground because of logging operations and it absolutely sucks. Several sources are pointing to "impactful snow storms " in the next few days. A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. Decision making time, thought we give her a try, 28⁰ and headed in the wrong direction, back to snow not agreeing with our needs very well, would if we in the snowman making business, wants to stick and not flow or cycle through the drag, 6 miles in, making her flat but if its not going to set up, it won't last at all.
Plenty of riding snow, just won't stay where we put it. Im going to flatten it out to the 498 intersection, and bring it back home for the night, I'll get right back in this thing as soon as the thermometer starts working with, rather than against us.
