KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 01/26
We are slowly, but surely racking up some more snow❄️ here in the Keweenaw! We have received about 6+ inches over the past few days and the cold 🥶 temps are moving in! We all know that means a good possibility for lake effect snow with Lake Superior still pretty open! ❄️💃 We are also under a winter weather advisory! 👏
Jordan Woods and crew shared some photos with us along with Patrick Schoff. Jordan said, “Great trip to the Keweenaw! Trail 124 into Gay was our favorite! It was smooth, fast and a lot of fun with all of twists and turns! Both the The Mariner North and The Gay Bar were awesome! We can’t wait to come back! We had an Airbnb in Dollar Bay and the host was awesome and very accommodating! They even let us work on a sled in the garage!” https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/757226360488865790… Patrick Schoff shared some photos and review of trails this morning (post can be seen here -https://www.facebook.com/100070685216408/posts/234040355628803/?mibextid=cr9u03) Patrick also shared a few photos of examples of water holes on trail 130. He said that trail 130 was pretty rough but they enjoyed stopping at Eagle Harbor Inn! They also took Trail 124 into Gay and Eagle Harbor Innt!

Please be aware while riding
⚠️ some of the water holes (as pictured below on trail 130) may not be frozen over yet. Ride with caution ⚠️
⚠️ Trail 133 is not recommended as it has been opened this season but not groomed. It has been pretty rough and wet. You can still get to Lac La Belle via trail 132 and to Gay via trail 124. (If you do ride trail 133, please let us know any review you have of conditions)
🛑Trail 122 is only PARTIALLY open from the trail 3/122 junction in Lake Linden to Sawmill Rd/the entrance to the Valley Sno Drifters trail to Dreamland Restaurant & Bar! Valley Sno Drifters after thiDreamland Restaurant & Bar 122 can not be used as a connection to Gay/trail 124!
⚠️the spur trail to High Rock Bay still has a pretty significant water hole on it. Hopefully with these cold temps and future, additional snowfall 🤞 groomer operators will be able to get in there and get the hole filled in and frozen over.
Groomers are out on the trails tonight! Check the Groomer Tracker app to see the status of specific trails!Groomer Trackerrail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and trails 120/121-Freda Loop are closed due to the damage from the Fathers Day Flood of 2018 See current daily snowfall amounts and compare previous seasons here: https://www.keweenawcountyonline.org/snowfall2.php
KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort >> Please when behind a groomer wait for them to flash lights for you to pass, this is for everyone’s safety. When approaching a groomer try to pull off to the side as far as you or ride as far off to the side as safe as you can. Please stay on your side of the trail, even more so try not to cross over onto freshly groomed trails. The longer it sets the better riding it is for you & others. Ride Right. Ride Safely. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another quickly-moving Clipper will bring a round of widespread, light snow beginning this evening, followed by lingering lake effect snow across the NW wind snow belts for Tuesday. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. As winds pick up early Tuesday, patchy blowing snow may contribute to reduced visibility in the NW wind snow belts. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026. Discussion Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it. Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
