NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 01/23 The trails are very good to excellent in the majority of the area. We groomed everything last night except to the falls because the trail was reported to be in good condition. Tonight we plan to groom everything including the falls, trout lake and cut river. Every trail has some logging on it so please ride with caution and care! Trail 9: We groomed all the way past pine stump to holland lake last night and will do so again tonight. Logging on County Rd 415 toward McMillan. Very Good to excellent in spots! Logging operations are finishing up but county roads 415 and 422 are still being plowed to finish hauling equipment out, so be careful, roads are icy.
Trail 498: Groomed yesterday and will do so again today. Very Good.
Trail 45: The gate is open to the Falls. We did not go out to the falls last night but plan to do it again tonight. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good to excellent in spots!!
Trial 9/2: We groomed all the way to trout lake and to cut river, we plan to groom all the way to trout lake and cut river again tonight. Very Good.

Here on February 21st, 2026, most of the snow and freezing rain will continue across the western UP and northwestern LP. We will see a shift to more snow into central and southern Michigan by late this evening. Then on Sunday, snow should be on-and-off across the entire state, with an uptick in typical lake effect zones such as the spine of the western UP, and the entire Lake Michigan shoreline. Lake effect bands are very finicky, and are subject to microclimate wind shifts. It's very possible that a few locations in our 1-3" zone see 4-5" by the end of the day on Sunday. We will be monitoring radar for a dominant lake effect band that stretches across the peninsula. The increase of wind on Sunday morning may also reduce visibility on all roadways to under half a mile, so travel only as fast as conditions allow.
Bottom line, plan for some more of that "annoyance" snow. Not enough to be called a big storm, but enough to cover all side roads, and many of our main roads. Accumulation will be higher during the overnight hours when surface temperatures are NOT at or above 32°F for most of the state. 31 degrees this morning and cloudy. Sorry for no trail report yesterday but I got real busy and the time just slipped by. These warmer nights are not helping our cause much but it looks like this will change soon. We have been dodging the rain unlike some of the surrounding areas have got so we are still ok.
All operators that ran yesterday are saying the same thing. All trails are still in good shape but the snow is soft and mushy. Our swampy areas are holding up for now. The base is a little thin in areas that the loggers had plowed down earlier this season though, but all in all we are in good shape. All trails will get run today/tonight.

Tracking more snow and colder temperatures into the weekend, breezy winds early next week, and another clipper mid next week.
Winds go more NW into this weekend bringing back some colder temperatures to support more snow. Better chances for the snow Saturday into N. Lower and the Tip of the Mitt. More lake effect snow chances for Sunday.
NW winds will become breezy Sunday into Monday. We also could have another clipper system to track next Tuesday into Wednesday. As of now, looking more like another snow/mix.

25 degrees this morning and its been very windy for the last 24 hrs. We did get some snow yesterday but its hard to tell how much cause of the wind. "They" are calling for a bunch more tomorrow too. It looks like our temps U.P. here will stay in the high 20`s to low 30`s for the next several days so we`ll still be in GREAT shape!
As far as the trails go we are in GREAT shape too. All 3 machines are running GREAT and we will be grooming almost around the clock for the weekend. You see the key word here?
So.......long story short......COME ON U.P.!
