Newberry Trail Report – 01/23

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 01/23

The trails are very good to excellent in the majority of the area. We groomed everything last night except to the falls because the trail was reported to be in good condition. Tonight we plan to groom everything including the falls, trout lake and cut river. Every trail has some logging on it so please ride with caution and care! The details are below for specific trail grooming.
We are raffling off a a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 450 Donated by Renze Power Sports. 300 Tickets printed. Those are some darn good odds for a $9,000 four wheeler.
Tickets: $100.00 each
Drawing held April 22, 2023 @ 7:00pm at the Elks Lodge in Newberry
If less than 125 tickets are sold then the raffle will revert to a 50/50 drawing.
Tickets can be purchased from: Renze Power Sports, Halfway Lake Cottages, North Store Follow Me Outfitters, Pine Stump Restaurant, Schubach Farms Cabin Rentals, or
Rich Rottier 616-550-8201.
Proceeds will go to fund trail grooming equipment! Good Luck!
Stay on the Trail!! Ride Right and Be Safe!! Please be respectful of private property, howbeit it fields or peoples front yards.
Curfew in the Village of Newberry is 11:00pm to 7:00am.
Trail 9: We groomed all the way past pine stump to holland lake last night and will do so again tonight. Logging on County Rd 415 toward McMillan. Very Good to excellent in spots! Logging operations are finishing up but county roads 415 and 422 are still being plowed to finish hauling equipment out, so be careful, roads are icy.
Trail 498: Groomed yesterday and will do so again today. Very Good.
Trail 45: The gate is open to the Falls. We did not go out to the falls last night but plan to do it again tonight. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good to excellent in spots!!
Trial 9/2: We groomed all the way to trout lake and to cut river, we plan to groom all the way to trout lake and cut river again tonight. Very Good.
Thank you to all the team at the groomers barn who puts in countless hours to keep the system groomed and maintenance on the machines!
Your grooming team from the TASA Barn!!

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Okay, remember how we mentioned sneaky snow this weekend? Well, it started yesterday, and will continue today at times, but fill in greater as lake effect by Sunday.
Here on February 21st, 2026, most of the snow and freezing rain will continue across the western UP and northwestern LP. We will see a shift to more snow into central and southern Michigan by late this evening. Then on Sunday, snow should be on-and-off across the entire state, with an uptick in typical lake effect zones such as the spine of the western UP, and the entire Lake Michigan shoreline. Lake effect bands are very finicky, and are subject to microclimate wind shifts. It's very possible that a few locations in our 1-3" zone see 4-5" by the end of the day on Sunday. We will be monitoring radar for a dominant lake effect band that stretches across the peninsula. The increase of wind on Sunday morning may also reduce visibility on all roadways to under half a mile, so travel only as fast as conditions allow.
Bottom line, plan for some more of that "annoyance" snow. Not enough to be called a big storm, but enough to cover all side roads, and many of our main roads. Accumulation will be higher during the overnight hours when surface temperatures are NOT at or above 32°F for most of the state. This also means our chances at freezing drizzle are higher during the daylight hours. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyOkay, remember how we mentioned sneaky snow this weekend? We fully expect to see your emoji reactions to this snowfall still-to-fall through the morning commute on Monday. Are you ready for winter to be over, or do you need this snow like there's no tomorrow?
