Munising Area Trail Report – 01/20
TRAIL REPORT, Friday, January 20, 2023 6:15 a.m. GOOD AMOUNT OF FRESH SNOW! We received about 7 inches of snow along the big lake to the North with more as you head South on our trail system. Hopefully it is enough to start binding up this sugary snow we had from all the traffic. A majority of our trail system was groomed again last night and continues today. We still have hazardous water holes on Trail 418 so ride and cross with extreme caution (Map in images showing locations). Keep a close eye on conditions as you ride and stay right. Trail got a little beat up during the warm up and all the rain. Tomorrow, Thursday the 19th, we are expecting anywhere from 6" to 12" of fresh wet snow. This is a good thing for all of us. The next couple of weeks, the Temps look like they will stay below freezing. Let’s hope they do. We will be grooming every night we can, as long as the Temps stay cool, and we have a person to put in the operators seat. Might even get a new guy trained in soon. We will get a trail report from our operator in the morning. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. Alger SORVA pulled a day shift assist and smashed down our problem areas with the Bison today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bind with too much snow! The tunnel under 41 had a 3’ (settled height) drift down the entire length and it was too much to push through. We are close to the roof of the machine during normal operas we scrape it down close to the bottom. One of our operators threw his personal track loader on a trailer and came to the rescue. Between the track loader and the Deere, we were able to clear the tunnel out and get back to grooming.
