Mother Nature unleashed her fury and we picked up over 30" of snow over the Christmas weekend. Tonight an additional snow fall of 6-9 inches of snow is expected, before a moderate warmup is anticipated toward the end of the week along with the potential of a little rain. As we kick off the 2022/2023 snowmobile season there is a few things you should know. The details are below for specific trail grooming. Two machines up and running at this time and one being worked on and hope to have it up and running soon.

Trail 9: Groomed the trail yesterday and will do so again today out to Holland Lake.
Trail 45: Groomed out to County Road 500 yesterday, but did not open the gate across the marsh to the Falls yet. Today we will send just the tractor out to the 500 and work the snow in/pack and hopefully be able to open the gate. We have to be able to see just how soft is is underneath before we open the gate, but we currently believe there is plenty of snow to be able a build up a pretty strong base to do so. Fingers crossed! There will be logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There will also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Equipment has been staged in both areas for the logging to start. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions will be plowed.
Trial 9/2: Groomed around town last night, down to Rexton and over to H40. Once a machine returns our plan is to groom down to Epouffette later tonight.
Thank you to all the team at the groomers barn who puts in countless hours to keep the system groomed and maintenance on the machines!

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 3/15/26 Its Sunday afternoon, 5pm, and a down right blizzard out der. I don`t remember seeing a storm this bad in a long time. Thought I would jump on here real quick cause social media is going crazy thinking we are done grooming. This is far from the truth! We are done on the Falls trail #45 and the swamp on trail #8 just south of town cause that last warm up really put a hurtin on them. The warmer swamp water really started to flow cause of the melt and caused a lot of open spots. We WILL NOT risk swamping a machine! We are gonna wait out this blizzard and get back at it on all the other trails. This may not be until Tuesday or even Wednesday as this is supposed to last until Monday night or early Tuesday morning. We have to dig ourselves out too!!!! Sooooo....please be patient. I will jump on here tomorrow morning and give ya`ll an update. Groomer Chris #paradise #newberry ... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via 9&10 News >> Winter Storm Update: 3-15 Sunday 1PM Phase 2 of the Winter Storm is kicking off! This will bring heavy snow and gusty winds still for the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final Update For Ice Accretion: A dangerous ice storm will begin tonight for portions of northern lower Michigan. The heaviest ice accretion takes aim in a localized area from Traverse City to Gaylord to Atlanta with over 0.50" of ice expected. Around this area, a zone of significant icing between 0.25' to 0.50" is expected - which is still enough to take down tree limbs and create power outages. The worst of the icing will be tonight into Monday morning, and then we deal with high winds moving in Monday morning as well which will only exaggerate the effects of this event. Plan for multi day outages, near impossible travel, and scattered tree damage, some significant. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskey #soo #newberryFinal Update For Ice Accretion:

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> One of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals. Key Notes: •Snow begins to work into Michigan late tonight, but becomes more widespread during the early morning hours of Sunday. This snow continues through Tuesday morning for the UP, and becomes a snow/freezing rain/sleet mix for northern lower Michigan beginning Sunday afternoon/evening. •Winds will gust between 40-60mph statewide both on Sunday and Monday. •This will be a full on blizzard for much of the Upper Peninsula •Expect scattered power outages across the state •Travel will be near impossible for the UP and northern lower Snow totals will be between one and four FEET when all is said and done on Tuesday in the UP. Further south, a mix is expected which will keep accumulations lower, and also will provide a sharp cutoff of accumulations. The difference between a foot of snow and 2” may be the width of one county. Further south, this system will end as snow for lower Michigan on Monday & Tuesday, which is why we have a wide area within a trace to an inch, and western lower in a 1-3” zone with wording of higher totals possible. We may need to adjust totals here as new data comes clearer for Tuesday. Stay tuned for the icing portion of this forecast. Northern lower Michigan will see significant icing which is not shown or communicated in this forecast graphic or write up. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyOne of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals.

WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> Here are a couple probability maps for the snow and ice potential through the full duration of this upcoming spring storm (through 8am on Tuesday). It’s not often that we get to show 90% probabilities of getting 1.5 feet of snow, but that will be the case for much of our region. And the potential for significant icing has started to inch more into the far eastern UP, so we’ll need to keep an eye on that as well. I’ll provide some final updates tomorrow morning before the first impacts start to roll in. In the meantime, enjoy your “day off” from all this whacky spring weather! ⛄️💨🥶 #miweather #munising #seney #newberry #soo #petoskey #gaylord ... See MoreSee Less
