FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 12/24 Wow, What a christmas present. Snowing blowing and drifing. Lots of snow to plow. Cold and windy, havent seen any sleds but been pushing snow all morning. Now already 1:00 p.m. Drifts were up to the top of my doors at storage. Got stuck for an hour and had to get pulled out. Really I think it will be tough riding. The snow is kind of like sugar and its so deep that it will blow up on your shield. On the bright side I did see the grayling groomer go by yesterday. I would bet things will be looking pretty good come monday morning. I was planning on watching hallmark christmas movies on Christmas day but I have a feeling I will still be plowing. Still some riders out there, I see one unloading over at the swamp. Pic below is a guy I saw at the gas station yesterday afternoon and he told me he had a great ride from lakes of the north down to frederic, trail 4 to 7 . At least a few riders still holding out for the end. Trail crossings I looked at this morning still pretty nice and white. That ice underneath is saving things but with more warmth coming itwill be going away.Like I have said many times I have seen way worse conditions than this before. Thanks for checking in. The warmth will help melt and leave some lube for those that are adventureous enough to get a ride in. My sled is buried in the corner right now but I know I could get a good ride in if I was a bit more ambitious. Ground or should I say ice is still rock hard and it is now 33 degrees. I would think that once things start melting that if you were here you could still get in a ride. Trail crossings I looked at on the way up here are still pretty white. I looked at the sledview.com camera and it looks bright white with still no snirt and 12 inches showing on his depth guage. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Well its up to 25 degrees and while its still nice and white out there its rock hard and like riding on broken concrete. I bet I had about a dozen riders ask for ice scratchers yesterday. Riders also told me they saw several sleds pulled off and trying to cool things down. I have seen a few sleds out already this morning. Riding would get better if the sun melts a little on top so people have lube. So northern michigan is pretty much a big rough skating rink right now.
