KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/31

March 31st is here and this is the last official day of the 2021/22 season. Trails running through private land will be closed after today. Trails running on state land do not close. Within the KSC trail system that is trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and trail 3 running south of Houghton that do not close to snowmobile traffic. These trails are open to ORV traffic.
Our snow “storm” sure didn’t pan out…. Keweenaw County only recorded 4.5 inches of fresh snowfall and a total of 305.5 inches for the season so far. There is definitely not a lack of snow though for those of us out enjoying the trails today!
Reid Berman has been up riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula for the past week and half 😳 and shared these photos from this morning. Reid said, “It’s pretty good out here, a few bumps, but they are minor. It has been good riding!”
Hope anyone that has the opportunity to ride today enjoys the day!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/28

The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club would like to thank everyone for an awesome season!

Grooming operations for the remainder of the season have ended. Trails are open through March 31st when gates on trails crossing private property will be locked.

Riding after March 31st is only allowed on the trails running on state owned land. Within the KSC trail system that includes Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and Trail 3 from Houghton to Toivola. Ride at your own risk as trails will not be maintained.
We would like to thank all riders, sponsors and club members for a great season!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> 2024 Season Opening Notes:
We need 1-3’ of snow depending on the trail and what lies beneath that snow- rock, sand, water/mud. Do those snow dances! We’re packed up and ready for when there is adequate snow!
Portage Lake Lift Bridge Opening will be weather dependent AND we await the return of the Ranger III from safety inspections in Duluth. There can be no crossing without the mat in place - safety, equipment, and bridge grates are among the reasons.
Trail 133 - Closed until snow levels are high enough, water holes are frozen, and property owners approve due to hunting.
Logging - We have active logging this year at the start of the season impacting Trail 124 and Trail 3 between Phoenix and Delaware finishing no later than 12/22. You can use trail 130 to bypass the trail 3 logging. Trail 122 will get you into Gay.
Grooming will begin when we have enough snow and the traffic dictates. Expect early season conditions with possible wet spots, tree limbs, and possibly gates closed if groomers haven’t been out yet.
HUGE news as well, Trail 3 was officially opened yesterday from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and will be available for use for the first time since the Fathers Day Flood of 2018.
Keep an eye out for updates!
Thanks,

Is trail 15 going north out of Baraga going to be opened this year? I read they are replacing a bridge. We have a trip planned for that area in February

I assume the state will partial refund our stickers. If the state sells us access to trails from certain dates then the person that paid should be the one to decide to use them or not.
