KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/31

March 31st is here and this is the last official day of the 2021/22 season. Trails running through private land will be closed after today. Trails running on state land do not close. Within the KSC trail system that is trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and trail 3 running south of Houghton that do not close to snowmobile traffic. These trails are open to ORV traffic.
Our snow “storm” sure didn’t pan out…. Keweenaw County only recorded 4.5 inches of fresh snowfall and a total of 305.5 inches for the season so far. There is definitely not a lack of snow though for those of us out enjoying the trails today!
Reid Berman has been up riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula for the past week and half 😳 and shared these photos from this morning. Reid said, “It’s pretty good out here, a few bumps, but they are minor. It has been good riding!”
Hope anyone that has the opportunity to ride today enjoys the day!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 3/28

The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club would like to thank everyone for an awesome season!

Grooming operations for the remainder of the season have ended. Trails are open through March 31st when gates on trails crossing private property will be locked.

Riding after March 31st is only allowed on the trails running on state owned land. Within the KSC trail system that includes Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock and Trail 3 from Houghton to Toivola. Ride at your own risk as trails will not be maintained.
We would like to thank all riders, sponsors and club members for a great season!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports --> Opening Weekend
Brent Mason was eager to get out and ride his new sled! It was early season conditions riding south of the Houghton/Hancock Portage Lake Lift Bridge but so worth it to get a little throttle therapy!
Brent said, “First snowmobile trip of the season turned out to be pretty awesome waking up to 6" of fresh snow Saturday morning on the Bill Nichols Trail. Then Sunday morning waking up to The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club grooming the
Bill Nichols Trail. Making for an epic Sunday Cruise.” www.facebook.com/100001221931747/posts/5901749019875771/?flite=scwspnss
So glad you were able to get some good riding in!! #keweenaw #snowphotos

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club --> Today is the day! Unfortunately, we have not received the snow that other areas have. There is not enough snow to groom without excessive equipment wear. ⚠️ RIDE WITH CAUTION ⚠️ You will encounter closed gates, water across the trail in several areas, tree limbs down and generally VERY early season riding conditions. Keep the snow dances going and we will update when we are able to begin grooming. Reminder that currently Trail 122 is closed as well as Trail 132W and Trail 3 has a section that is shared with logging traffic. Trail 133 is also closed due to deer hunting and water areas not frozen, we will update when it’s available for use. Picture of Trail 3 in Mohawk... #keweenaw #snowphotosToday is the day!
