SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 3/10
Did a quick ride tonight to check the trails out. They are really holding up surprisingly well! Definitely hard and fast and we were hookig up really nice in the corners. I don’t run scratchers and the hottest I got was 145 on pavement. On the trail, I was running about 102 but scratchers may be needed in the coming days.
Here’s where we went and what we saw-
City trail, tunnel to the business spur- good, very few moguls, hard base, some loose corners but overall good. Pic of the road below is what you can expect to see along road sides and crossings.
Trail 8, Soo to Brimley- smooth and flat, very few chatter bumps, really only approaching stop signs.
Getting through Brimley, the road riding is what it is for March. Not too long and not too bad. Shoulders are pretty bare.
889 loop including Mission Hill lookout- great shape, very few hardly noticeable chatter bumps in some corners
Powerline (part of 8 to 480)- smooth, flat, fast
480 to 472- smooth, flat, and tight packed corners
472 to just north of Ploegstra- smooth, flat, corners are holding well.
I know we are often our own worst critics but I couldn’t find anything bad out there tonight other than the couple of spots where we had to ride the road shoulder getting in and out of Brimley.
Get your rides in while you can! Trails are holding up great so far! ❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/21/26 Wow! I am so pleasantly surprised how well the trails held up today!! Sugar Island Chris DID groom 8 this morning from the Soo to Brimley. For those that have been asking, the bay in Brimley is starting to show some slushy spots. While I wish I was hopping in the groomer, it’s just too warm and they are pretty darn good anyway! Shout out to Mackinac County Snowmobile Association , Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club & Grooming Report, and the Chippewa Snowchasers for their great trails today too! Lots of people out enjoying the day. We had heavy wet snow, then freezing rain, then back to snow. 150 miles of smiles here in the far EUP. I hope you got to enjoy it too! Incredible, especially for March 21st! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0321f#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. A glaze of ice will also be possible in a few spots this morning and again tonight. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaA pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/21/26 Good morning all! Unfortunately, it stayed too warm overnight for us to send groomers out. Ride safe, ride right, ride sober! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo ... See MoreSee Less
