Munising Area Trail Report – 03/05
TRAIL REPORT March 5, 2022 Great Trails Ahead of the Rain! Overall trails are in very good condition with some great late season riding available. We have had a few rollers develop with using this smaller groomer set-up so stay alert for changing trail conditions. Thanks to Schoolcraft County Motorized Trails Association for grooming Trail 8 North of Shingleton and Big Bay De Noc Snowmobile Club for grooming Trail 7 South of Buckhorn. We will continue to do what we can with the Programs Spare Bully, our club owned John Deere 7130 and help from our neighbors. Bully parts arrived and that has been getting repaired but of course we found another hydraulic leak. Still awaiting a return delivery date on the Big Deere. Rain in the forecast so lets hope it stays close to freezing. Temperatures may affect groom-ability so we will be watching closely to determine a hold or not. Today’s Trail Report brought to you by: The Terrace Motel, Munising, MI https://www.exploringthenorth.com/terrace/terr.html <> <> MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 3/4 With our trails holding up in great shape and Alger SORVA having more issues with their Bully, Steve made a run with our groomer to help our neighbors with a double loop run around 417, 418, 7, and 8 on their west end. Trail set up hard with decent snow and came out relatively flat with a little work. We are glad we could help out as much as we could this year as machine downs have been an issue not only with Alger SORVA, but with multiple clubs across the UP. Clubs have stepped up to help other clubs and it makes all the difference. A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. Most locations will struggle to get above freezing today, with the exception of areas near Lake Michigan. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. Alger SORVA pulled a day shift assist and smashed down our problem areas with the Bison today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bind with too much snow! The tunnel under 41 had a 3’ (settled height) drift down the entire length and it was too much to push through. We are close to the roof of the machine during normal operas we scrape it down close to the bottom. One of our operators threw his personal track loader on a trailer and came to the rescue. Between the track loader and the Deere, we were able to clear the tunnel out and get back to grooming.
