Munising Area Trail Report – 03/04
TRAIL REPORT March 4, 2022 Great Trails with Help Again! Thanks to help from (3) of our neighboring Clubs Trails in an overall very good condition with our Bully being down again. (Trenary Northern Trails, Schoolcraft County Motorized Trails Association and Big Bay De Noc Snowmobile Club). We will continue to do what we can with the Programs Spare Bully, our club owned John Deere 7130 and help from our neighbors. Hopefully parts arrive for the Bully today and we get a surprise delivery of the Big Deere, still awaiting a return delivery date. Lets hope this weekends warm weather forecast switches to snow instead of heavy rain. Temperatures may affect groom-ability so we will be watching closely to determine a hold or not. Trail set up hard with decent snow and came out relatively flat with a little work. We are glad we could help out as much as we could this year as machine downs have been an issue not only with Alger SORVA, but with multiple clubs across the UP. Clubs have stepped up to help other clubs and it makes all the difference. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. Additional snowfall of up to an inch in the west and 1 to 3 inches in the east can be expected. Then a transition over to lake effect snow over the west to northwest wind snowbelts. 3 to 7 inches of snowfall over the east tonight into Sunday morning. A widespread 1-3 inches of snow is expected, possibly locally higher up to 3-4in in the eastern UP. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
