Munising Area Trail Report – 02/26
TRAIL REPORT February 26, 2022 GOOD RIDING CONDITIONS CONTINUE! Still no real changes. Trails are in an overall good to very good condition with no new snow. Operators were reporting very good results with some areas setting very good. Primarily our trails east of M94 are in very good condition, to the West of that good condition. Trails are expected to get choppy throughout the day. There is a Poker Run coming in from Grand Marais today so Trail 8 North of Shingleton is also expected to get moguled out early. Operators are doing what they can with the tools at hand as we anxiously await the return of our Big John Deere. Not sure of the current status but we did have a weld break on the Program machine ‘s groomer so that is also currently down. Get out and enjoy the trails and Stay Tuned for updates! Trails will take a beating this weekend and will get rough through the day. Temps will be up on Saturday, so that won’t help either. We will do what we can to keep them smooth. Corners are taking a beating this year. Please stop blowing out the corners. It takes a lot of snow and effort to get corners back in shape. It cannot be done in 2 passes. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. Alger SORVA pulled a day shift assist and smashed down our problem areas with the Bison today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bind with too much snow! The tunnel under 41 had a 3’ (settled height) drift down the entire length and it was too much to push through. We are close to the roof of the machine during normal operas we scrape it down close to the bottom. One of our operators threw his personal track loader on a trailer and came to the rescue. Between the track loader and the Deere, we were able to clear the tunnel out and get back to grooming.
