FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 1/27
There is light snow in the air in downtown Frederic on thursday about 11 a.m. Supposed to get a little snow so this coming weekend of riding will be about the same as last weekend. Riders are still out there and you just have to deal with what we have if you want to get a ride in. I had full intentions of going for a little ride yesterday but the day got away from me and I never made it. Today makes six weeks since my knee replacement surgery so I wanted to just try an easy ride and see how it went. I guess it will be next week now. I sat on my sled and it felt pretty good, I just need to be careful. The Darkside Advnenture ride seems to be going good now, they made it out of New Hampshire and are up into Maine now and it looks like the North East where they are at is going to get blasted. If you havent checked out there blog I will put a link to it but if you click on their tab that says track us you can see exactly where they are at which is a pretty cool feature. I just wish some year I could ride with them. Darkside Adventures Blog Pic below is from their page from yesterday. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
