Munising Area Trail Report – 01/20

TRAIL REPORT January 20, 2022

GOOD SNOWFALL and WORKIN’ OVERTIME!

Four to six inches of new snow fell over the last 24 hours with the trail system in an overall very good condition, good in towns and near roadways. Groomer Operators Al and Chris were working overtime in the Big Deere yesterday and last night, both getting very good results with the new snow. Operators Les and Jim were working extra miles with our smaller club owned Deere getting the same good results.

We are currently working out a plan with our neighboring club Trenary Northern Trails (TNT). They offered to cover some trail grooming on the west side until the Bully is back up and running. Its a hydraulic brake issue and these larger repairs do not happen fast with the required grant process so hang in there. It’s extra work but everyone will be doing what they can to keep the trail grooming un-interrupted. Still more Snow is in the forecast so get out and ride safe, stay right and enjoy the great riding conditions! Keep doing the Cold Weather Snow Dancing and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA - TRAIL REPORT April 1, 2022
ORV Season Open – Conditions Favor Sledding!
Trail Reports will be in an ORV format which now include our maintaining of Trail “C” (8, 7, 418, 417) from Shingleton all the way to Marquette. The ORV Season is officially open but there is still plenty of snow to ride your sleds. We had another few inches of fresh wet snow yesterday as we put away the groomers. For sledding Main Trail conditions are fair to good with a few water holes. Our final groom was panning from Wetmore back to our groomer barn in Shingleton yesterday. There is very dirty, gravely snow along roadways near towns. A majority of our Trail System is on State and Federal Land and still rideable for sleds, just note that Trails will begin to be shared with ORV’s. As far as ORV riding we still have lots of snow with large soft spots, slush and water holes in areas. For us it is time to get tires on the club owned Deere and prepare for upcoming brushing and grading. Ride to the Right and Stay Tuned for updates!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan - Tonight's weather will be benign, with mostly clear skies and low temperatures in the single digits across the Upper Peninsula.
Attention turns to a messy winter storm starting Tuesday night. As the initial warm front approaches, the expected progression of precipitation will be starting as sleet and freezing rain. Throughout Wednesday, freezing rain will turn into rain, but the precipitation is expected to change rapidly Wednesday night from rain to sleet to snow. This is a complex system and minor changes in temperatures and the timing of its arrival will have impacts on what type of precipitation falls, so continue to monitor the forecast for such changes. Regardless of the details, some power outages are possible especially in areas of freezing rain and wind, and travel could be hazardous in many areas.... #MIWeather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #Seney #newberry #Soo #straitsarea

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan - Scattered lake effect snow showers will linger over the eastern counties this morning, tapering off by this afternoon. Conditions have improved along M-28, but continue to use caution. Blowing snow could still reduce visibilities this morning. Temperatures today will top off in the low to upper 20s with some 30s to the south as sunshine prevails this afternoon. But, the quiet weather will only last through tomorrow when focus quickly shifts to the approaching winter storm... #MIWeather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #Seney #newberry #Soo #straitsareaScattered lake effect snow showers will linger over the eastern counties this morning, tapering off by this afternoon. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA - TRAIL REPORT March 28,2022
A BIT MORE IMPROVEMENT!
A few more inches of fresh snow and cold temperatures allowed for more productive grooming yesterday. Trail 8 from Shingleton West to Trail 7 North up to Trail 418 was groomed with Operator Brian reporting a fair to good condition. Still watch for a few water holes. There is very dirty, gravely snow along roadways near towns. Trail 7 South toward Buckhorn has bare section in the open areas. The Bully ran for 7 miles North of Shingleton yesterday with fair to good results. Operator Keith reported a few small water holes and gravel patches in open areas closer to Shingleton but overall pretty good. For now operations will be very limited as we close out the season over the next few days. Ride to the Right, watch for groomers and Stay Tuned for updates!
