Antrim County Trail Report – 01/13
ANTRIM COUNTY UPDATE via Antrim County Snowmobile Club – 1/13 Good afternoon, Unfortunately the one thing that isn’t holding up it’s end of the bargain is Mother Nature. We had a great start to the year and then it was 50* and crazy wind and rain storms. This week we sent each machine out and unfortunately the reports all came in the same, we need snow. Yesterday a couple of our guys went out for a ride and said the same thing. Trails currently are dirt to 5” of snow. The wooded areas are super thin as well as most areas open to the wind. Our southern trails have some chop in them from the uneven ground, 131 is very thin, north 10 is this as well. With that said, we won’t be grooming until we receive more snow. Our crews are in place and the minute we can groom we will turn them loose! If you ride please be cautious of the early season like conditions. Water, ruts, washboard / uneven ground. If you happen to see a trail obstruction please message us and we’ll get it taken care of. Please as you search for snow be mindful of private land owners and where you are. Another day of slow sled traffic on saturday. I did count about 25 sleds across the street yesterday at the peak and I see a few over there now for breakfast. Still light snow in the air. I am certainly not thrilled with the forcast this coming week and it did make it up to 36 yesterday. The sleds that are out there are making the best of what we do have. For the first time in a few years Junior and the Obama Tour stopped by so it was good to visit with them. They are hoping for more riding this season too. A snow squall. Maybe that’s what we had going on in Wakefield today. It was nuts! FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. I only saw about a dozen sleds on friday and I see a few over at the swamp this morning probably having the breakfast buffet. Last nite I went there for a mushroom and swiss burger and they had a band. To bad the place was pretty empty. We had about 1 inch of fluff overnight and I dont expect to see to many people today. I had the loader come last nite to move snow at both my storage lot and my parking lot behind Sledheads. It was so bad yesterday after the thaw I needed that big equipment to make it more tolerable. Lake effect snows develop tonight, again most persistent in the snow belts north of the Mighty Mac. Forcast is not favorable for later this week but I am sure there will be some sleds out and about as people
just do not want to wait. Hoping it will kick in but thats the best we can do. Its still nice and white out even though we lost alot of snow.

Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
