Light snow will accompany the front but generally less than an inch is expected. Behind the front temperatures will fall into the single digits above and below zero. This combined with gusty winds will bring wind chills down into the teens and twenties below zero. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Gogebic and Iron counties tonight through Saturday morning. Lake effect snow will develop behind the front in the northwest wind snowbelts with several inches expected. Groomer Mike P went from the Soo south to 12 mile on trail 49 today. As you can see, there are water holes that are still giving us a hard time on this trail. He says this one is behind the county garage, a little south of the power station as you’re heading South out of the Soo. He says this one is at least 2.5 feet deep.
South of 12 mile remains really wet and deep through the beaver swamp and we won’t be grooming down that way until it freezes up really good. Mike did the best he could to push snow into the more shallow wet spots to hopefully help get them frozen. He urges riders to be extra cautious on this trail. We do have an extended period of cold coming finally so that will help a bunch.
Additionally, we have a groomer that is down in the Kinross area so there is no grooming south of 12 mile at this time.
Definitely still early season and all of the troubles that come along with it but there is still plenty of trail to ride if you want to get out. Trails are icy after rain last weekend and a little snow on top. We are doing the best we can with what we have to work with.
Ride safe and pay attention to wet
areas and slippery corners.

Dan was out overnight on trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley.
It was -7 for his run🥶 It’s looking absolutely awesome this morning! ❄️❄️❄️

Another video from Pat for our off trail fans. There are some awesome spots to play in the Raco and Strongs areas. This is southwest of Raco on 12/12, before the new snow today!

Winter storm warning has been issued! We are expecting fresh snow over most of our area. As of today, everything is as flat as if can be. The cold has really helped with the water holes and sleds are passing all areas easily.
Mike and our newest trainee just completed the city trails. We have made the decision to leave the city trails and trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross alone as far as grooming until Sunday. With fresh snow on top of a flat base, we think this is best for riders and will allow you to have snow for cooling vs a super hard packed trail, and will really help freeze up any remaining soft spots.
Our spare Tucker is running triple duty while we await a fix for our newer Tucker that has an electrical issue. This is another reason we have made this decision. Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be prioritized if it is determined that grooming is needed.
Our Raco, Bay Mills, Brimley, and Kinross south areas remain on the normal schedule.
