Newberry Trail Report – 03/05
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 03/05 TASA UPDATE: March 5, 2021 7:00am It has been a weird winter as you well know. There has certainly been a few challenges with snow and mechanical issues, but we have given it our very best to give you the very best. It is certainly late season riding conditions. The staging area in town is dirt. The stretch from town up to the Silver Creek Staging area is thin and several dirt areas and one water spot. We are losing the side of the road rather quickly. The trails are hard, flat and icy in the morning from the nights, but once the sun hits it they get soft and thin. Some of the corners are icy. We were able to get out after it cools down to scrap things back down and smooth it back out. It is barely hanging on. We will see temperatures warm up over the weekend to mid 30’s on Saturday 38 on Sunday and next week will be upper 30’s again. We will groom as long as we can. How much longer that is is uncertain and we take it day by day currently. The temperatures will be in the 40’s next week. All the updates are below. Ride Right!! We hope you understand what we are dealing with because we appreciate you being here and supporting our local business! Getting in and out of town will be rough. We realize this could be the last weekend to attempt to ride for most. We Thank each and everyone of you for your support!! Trail 45: Fair We groomed last night. The current plan is groom late evening as long as the temperature holds. We will groom tonight. There is a plowed portion where logging is taking place and it is down to dirt. This could be the last weekend to the Falls, but we will play it by ear. Icy! Trail 9: Fair We groomed last night. The current plan is groom late evening as long as the temperature holds. After this weekend we will do one way trips at night to the Pine Stump and then do one way back the following day as long as we can. Trail 498: Fair We groomed last night. Wolf Inn: Take Out and a couple of tables outside. Limited indoor dining per the guidelines given to us Camp 33 (The Falls) February 1st open 7 days a week 11:00 to 7:00. Finally seen a groomer out late towards eving by trout like. It looked like a tinker toy compared to the tractors n groomers here in Kalkaska. I was surprised. Great !!! We rode to trout lake yesterday and it was brutal but cannot fault your work and dedication it’s the weather ! I talked to driver I passed coming into newberry great guy!! 27 degrees this morning under a partly sunny sky. Here`s what went on yesterday and what`s happening today.......
Groomer Glenn ran the Point trails and said they are in great shape.
Groomer Keith hit the Pine Stump trails and said they are in good shape.
Groomer Dave is gonna run the South trail #8 today.
That`s it, short and sweet. We`ll keep runnin until the weather doesn`t allow us or the end of the month, whichever comes first.

31 degrees this morning and cloudy. Not much more to report on the weather U.P. here. Here`s what has been happining on the trails......
Groomer Dave ran trail #8 south of town, skipping the swamp of course, and called it good. He did crack the ice on the big holes on the south end of the power line. We will run it again Sunday but if we break through that ice we will be done with that trail. The one hole can get 3' deep. I got one VERY important thing to mention on this trail. We have the swamp section ribboned off with caution tape cause the gate is buried in snow. Some JERK(S) ripped down this ribbon and rode thru. We redid it now but this act was VERY dangerous. If somebody just followed your tracks and got stuck in there it could have been serious. PLEASE respect the roped off trails!!!!!!
Today we are gonna run the Pine Stump trails #8 & #9 and the Point trails #452 & #453. For the rest of the season we are gonna run trails as the weather allows. Some good news is we have our 3rd machine up and runnin again!!!!
