Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/05
March 5, 2021 27 degrees this morning under a clear blue sky. The last couple of days have been the same so no new snow. I always hate this time of year to announce this but I think its time. Unless something really strange happens……we are done grooming 🙁. A couple of the guys have gone out the last couple of days and said its a waste of time and energy, plus its beatin up the equipment. All our trails are hard and icey and flat. Don`t get me wrong, there is good ridin to be had for this weekend if you`re thinking about coming UP for one last ride but the temps are supposed to get up into the 40`s and 50`s by Sunday and Monday. This will toast our trails that are already thin. Off trail ridin should still be good for another week or so though. Unless something crazy happens this will be my last report on the trails. I`ll jump on here from time to time and let ya`ll know about any brushing parties we are planning for next fall or give you any important news you may want to know. Take care and God Bless. We’re waking up to a cold, snowy start today—winter’s not quite done with us yet! 🥶

We’re almost caught up here… but it looks like another round of snow pushing is on the schedule for today! #newberry #snowphotos 
No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.
Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Trail update
Firsts thoughts are what the heck do we do??? Well at the moment we unhooked drag and running the John Deere track tractor just to try and break through. We received somewhere around 3ft so far where it hasn't blowed. There is 6 ft plus drifting in spots. The drifts are gonna get hard to. As much as I would like to say it's awesome out here it just isn't and will take several days to get somewhat of a trail. We are just getting started so there could be more surprises but we are trying!! For the next several days if you are coming up our trails are drifting and there is so much snow that it will take several trips to get smoothed out. We will update when things change.
