KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 03/03
We survived another one day warm up quite well!
There were some thin spots starting to show today. Getting through Hancock was less pleasant with some bare pavement, and road crossings have become thin/bare in areas, but the trails were overall in excellent condition yesterday outside of towns!
Mike Aschliman has really timed his trip perfectly…..again! Mike makes it out west and up to Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula when he’s not lucky enough to be riding from his own back door! Mike shared these photos from yesterday and said, “Well done!👏 The 906 is amazing! These Groomer Operators really take pride in their trails! There are more Groomers than sleds!”
We couldn’t agree more, Mike! These Groomer Operators pour their heart and soul into these trails and maintaining/repairing the machines! The passion snd dedication is what makes the Keweenaw my personal weekly/daily riding area! I personally can’t thank them AND their family members and friends also that are behind the scenes helping to support their looooong days/nights! Of course the club doesn’t operate so smoothly without the entire Keweenaw Snowmobile Club board members and YOU the members of the club that join and financially help support the club! I receive many messages from riders of how they can help financially and if you missed our post the other day…..click here to see it ➡️ https://www.facebook.com/313447989133680/posts/1078830975928707/?d=n
Join the club, buy 50/50 raffle tickets or donate to the much needed Groomer Barn GoFundMe account! Such a great way to help show your appreciation!
The temps the rest of the week are forecasted to stay below freezing now until Sunday! It will be partly sunny each day. I assume there will be heavy traffic again as the weekend approaches, as I spent a goid part of yesterday trying to help people find places to stay….. and with the forecast for next week… it definitely looks as though NOW is the time to ride!
If you ever get to experience riding the Keweenaw, mid week, I highly recommend it. Sled traffic is usually MUCH less! As Mike said, we didn’t see many other sleds yesterday!

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Good morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. ... #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyGood morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. If you're heading north of M-55, a wintry mix will greet you. Snow totals of an inch, perhaps more will be possible, and a snow map will be out in a bit to showcase totals on a statewide basis. Meanwhile, summer is here temporarily as showers and storms move in by late afternoon south of Grand Rapids and Flint. High temperatures will be in the 60s, and even low-70s, especially south of I-94. More warmth means more fuel for storms though, so on a day like today, you should be rooting against warmer high temperatures to avoid severe weather. Speaking of temperatures, just an insane gradient from north to south. High temperatures in the low-20s for the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas just south of the Michigan state line jump to near 80°F. Precipitation will start early up north, while southern Michigan doesn't start seeing shower activity until afternoon. More details to come in a bit on our severe weather, but the peak timing along and south of I-94 for severe weather will be after 3 pm EDT. Main severe weather hazard today will be very large hail, so it's probably a good idea to protect your valuables today if you're in the southern two rows of counties, just out of an abundance of caution. Bare with us today, it's a lot of information, but we've got you covered from beginning to end.
If you're new to Michigan Storm Chasers, follow us on Facebook, YouTube, X, or Twitch TV, for live severe weather coverage once the first warning is issued in the state.
